That was a Cal hire due to the Flores lawsuit

I think caserio wouldn’t let any of those guys being on their own guys and that’s usually a deal breaker for them. Pep staying on but being promoted to OC was a disaster

Absolutely. If you want to be a part of the franchise long term, losing tomorrow is the most important thing for the long term vision of the franchise. Going against that means you don't care about the franchise's long term success.

    :D

I think Josh McCown would probably be their head coach but had to pivot to Lovie.

    McCown-Flores-Gannon were the three finalists.
    Timing/dates could be off…
    Gannon was eliminated first.

Flores files lawsuit (not hiring that guy)
McCown (after lawsuit, can’t hire the token white guy with no coaching experience)
    Pivot to in-house minority DC

There is a difference between not his hire and not his first (or even third) choice. ;)

Lovie Smith has a career 111-142-1 record as a head football coach.

Why should he be a head coach?

If we're going to draft a franchise quarterback, don't we want an offensive head coach?

All Lovie needs to do is ask McNair to pray with him. The Easterby playbook, use religion as a way to manipulate Cal into doing what he wants.

Who wants to bet those meetings with Cal are about God and what Jesus would do.

This post I made a while ago refutes the notion that Caserio is blameless in hiring Culley and Caserio.

    https://bbs.clutchfans.net/posts/14414508/

If Lovie is fired, Caserio should be fired as well. Even this season there were reports of him being in the coaching booth, so for all we know, Caserio was probably meddling in areas usually handled by the Head Coach and Coordinators.

It looks to me that Caserio wants to be both head coach and GM. He's treating the head coaching position like a figurehead so that behind the scenes he can continue to meddle in that area. If Caserio is allowed to fire Lovie and hire a third coach, don't be surprised if next year's coach is also one and done.

This. I don't trust Caserio at this point. Why should he, or any GM for that matter, get to hire three coaches in three years. Sheesh.

John McClain articles don’t refute anything.

All of this would be true if Caserio hired the HC's and taking a flier on Mills in the 3rd rd certainly isn't saying this is the franchise QB of the future.

Somebody is trying to find a new scapegoat now that Easterby is gone and this guy has chosen Caserio.

Caserio rightfully will get to make the picks from the Watson. Hopefully he does a good job. I like last years draft.

Crazy thinking if you think Lovie was a Caserio hire.

NFL sources: Texans coach Lovie Smith’s job in danger. Will team fire its head coach third year in a row?
    https://www.click2houston.com/sport...team-fire-its-head-coach-third-year-in-a-row/

This looks to me like a leak from Caserio's camp.

When they move on from Lovie it will be for "philosophical differences" like they said for Culley.

Also reporting mutual interest remains between Texans and Gannon. This is a very detailed report by Aaron Wilson and certainly sounds by the tone that the Texans are strongly leaning towards cutting ties with Lovie

Whoever accepts the job will have to be receptive to Caserio's suggestions regarding strategy, scheme, practice routines, and the use of analytics and other data. That severely narrows down the list of potential candidates. Caserio's micro-managing of the head coach is dysfunctional.
