Should at least be able to get pick swap rights with our 2023 MIL pick in a EG trade.

Phoenix, Chicago, Clippers, GS, and Miami all own picks right now in the 14-18 range.

New Orleans owns Laker’s pick, currently 11. Wondering if attaching KJ with EG would be enough?

lol Stone is so bad at trades.

EG is not going to fetch you an unprotected 1st round pick. We'd be lucky if we even get a 1st rounder for him at this point.

these guys really have the balls to ask for an unprotected first for a 34 yr old that isn't productive? that's the same Detroit asking for bogdanovic who has played like an all star. Smh

Jesus christ just let him go

Stein's report lines up with what was said last year about what Houston was wanting for Eric Gordon. Teams were willing to give up a first-round pick with protections and Stone rejected those offers.

I think he should do it if it's similar to our situation with OKC. In 2024, OKC has swap rights with us but they are top 4 protected. If we get the top 4 pick, then it conveys into two second rounders. I would be fine with a worst case scenario of two second rounders for Gordon at this point. We've kept him too long and he ought to get to spend his final years on a team with at least an outside shot of contending.

I would definitely settle for top 10 protected.

The best thing Stone can do is trade Gordon for a 1st round picks to a contender, but I think it is too late he should have done this last year. I think we are going to get a 2nd round pick.

The problem has always been that there was no simple trade of a pick for EG.

It's always been a bad contract in return for EG that might have a mediocre pick attached to it.

That's why EG is still a Rocket.

I mean, do you really make a deal that takes away that max salary spot in this offseason and the next for some pick in the mid to late 20's?

This is why I've been saying that it's highly likely EG isn't traded, he ends up cut / bought out and they get nothing in return - aside from people b****in that they didn't get anything for him despite the fact that it wasn't so simple.

Even the deal that's been discussed between Houston, PHX & Milwaukee comes with salary that extends into next season and that's a deal breaker.

Now I don't at all disagree with the idea that EG should not be on this roster .... but the trade situation has never been advantageous for the Rockets.

hey you obviously have better knowledge of the inside the front office stuff than I do. I always expected we could trade him for some sort of positive asset. But I don’t know what was on the table. I thought the Philly offer wouldn’t have had us taking back anything more than expirings.

Philly couldn't match salaries (last year) without including something like 5 players. I went into depth on it back then, it was all but an impossibility because, let's be honest, Philly shipping out Korkmaz, Thybulle, Niang, Maxey & Springer (~$15.3m total) to get within 125% of EG's contract to make the money work didn't make them better.

Last years Philly cap - Philadelphia 76ers 2021-22 Salary Cap Table | Spotrac

And to further complicate matters, the Rockets would have had to create 4 open roster spots to make room for the incoming players. You must have an open roster spot for each incoming player in a trade above the # sent out.
That means they would have had to either add more players (and more money & players coming back) to the trade or cut guys they had no intentions of cutting, and eating any dead money from those cuts.

I really don't believe that deal was ever on the table. It made no sense for either team.

Is there a trade out there for Gordon where we can receive a veteran who's won a ring before and wouldn't mind teaching these young players?

Like Memphis has Danny Green - he'd be a good vet, no?

Green is injured for the year and is an expiring contract, so probably not the best option.

I can't think of a trade target, but FVV as a free agent in the offseason seems like a great player for that role for us. Could also give us the point guard we need.

That's assuming we don't get the second pick of course.

Stone is haunted by the Oladipo trade that is why he has been stubborn with Gordon.
Unfortunately, he is headed for the same results with Gordon.
