Rockets Reportedly Looking For Unprotected First-Round Pick For Eric Gordon

The Houston Rockets are reportedly looking for an unprotected first-round pick in exchange for Eric Gordon, league sources told Marc Stein of Substack.

Stein adds that the Rockets are looking for Gordon to fetch a return similar to Bojan Bogdanovic of the Pistons.

The 34-year-old Gordon is averaging 11.5 points in 29.7 minutes this season.

Although they’ve expressed reluctance to move Bogdanovic, the Pistons have also been conveying that if they do have a change of heart, the asking price would be at least an unprotected first-round pick, says Stein.

Two teams have told Stein recently that the Rockets‘ asking price for Eric Gordon is similar to what the Pistons have sought for Bogdanovic. While Houston may be trying to get an unprotected first-round pick for Gordon, the club probably knows it won’t get that sort of return, according to Stein, who views it as an example of just how high prices are in general with over a month to go until the deadline and few sellers on the market.

I can't help but laugh at the idea of an unprotected #1 for either EG or Bogdanovic ..... a team that pays that price is stupid.

If Stone is able to get a protected #1 out of EG, it'll come with multiple years of bad salary tied to it.

My bet is that EG is cut (bought out) after the deadline. There will be no trade.

If this kind of posturing helps increase the return we get for EG, then fine, but waiting also comes at a cost. Tate is back; we’ve run out of time. But I guess they’ll let a month go by where Tari and KJ get their minutes squeezed? Cause that’s good for our development? EG is addition by subtraction at this point. Our strategy with EG has been so misguided.

You almost get the sense that they want to keep Gordon.

    Sadly, I agree.

Which I would still prefer over absorbing Fournier or Robinson just because they’ll have some sort of minor asset attached to them.

Yes give us a very good unprotected 1st round pick for 34 year old 6'3 man averaging 11 ppg making 20 million. It's good deal

If it is a 2023 FRP the protection won’t matter to a clear playoff team. Sounds good I guess to call it unprotected but that only matter for future picks if you are well on your way to playoffs already…

This is idiotic. Just buy him out at this point if you’re not going to be realistic about moving the man. Unprotected first? Get the **** out of here...

At this point EG is addition by subtraction. Take a 2nd round pick or just buy him out.

If I was the Nuggets or the Celtics I'd be open to trading my FRP unprotected, as long as it is for the upcoming draft.

If there's literally no chance you are going to be in the lotto, or even the first half of the draft, sure, here's my FRP with no protections whatsoever, if that makes you feel better.
