Is that FTA/gm? usually FTr means FTA/FGA, and he’s 3rd in his class on the ROCKETS alone, Sengun and Garuba have higher FTr… There is definitely improvement, however, since last year in getting to the line. We’ll have to evaluate this kid once we have a team trying to play NBA basketball, instead of AAU. He’s definitely chucking and playing undisciplined, but that’s on coach. If we have a system, where we are trying to play the right way and it’s designed to get him in his strong spots, open lanes, cuts, etc., then we evaluate. If he then plays boneheaded ball, you can complain then. He doesn’t give me the bonehead/chucker vibe. It’s just right now the whole team plays like headless chicken, he’s just trying to get his 25 shots per game any way he can.
Wasn't he the only shooting guard in his class to be drafted as the #1 option for his team? In fact, how many shooting guards from his class were even drafted to be starters?
I said he leads all his peers in ftr including big men who are in the paint more where more fouls are called like Barnes or Mobley. Guards typically have lower ftr than bigs because of the nature of where their offense starts from.
This is true, which there is also ''use your And1 mixtape dribble session then drive into 3 defenders and either pray it goes in or for a whistle'', along with many other examples that could be easily provided for each said player league wide
Those so called two best players could probably start on the other 10 win teams they are competing in the Wemby sweepstakes for, and thats about it Or could you showcase a list of those quality / good teams they would start for?
I wouldn’t call him a chucker because it’s not like he’s ball hogging or taking 20 plus shots a night. He’s just very streaky at this point in his career due to his shot selection, not to mention I do believe he’s taken on a bigger role as a playmaker this year. All that being said, I like Jalen but until he improves his shot selection he’s going to continue to be a streaky scorer. He needs to stop settling for so many step-back 3’s, (and I could be wrong, if so someone provide the stats) it’s almost like he doesn’t shot as many mid range shots as last season and that’s one aspect of his game that many of us were excited about coming into the season. At the same time I feel his FG% has a lot to do with him attacking the rim this year, which is something I do give Jalen credit for. He put on a little weight this season and plays more aggressive but he still gets stuffed at the rim a lot or won’t get a call due to not being a star player. I really would like to see Jalen learn a floater or teardrop to prevent that from happening, he also needs to learn that a pump-fake can be almost effective as a step-back in certain situations.
I get that you think that based on your feels and biases, the more objective analysis disagrees with you though. For KPJ, he'd start for just about any team that has a spot at the 1, 2, or 3 without a star. For Sengun, he'd fit in on teams that has a spot at the 4 or 5 without a star. Those are the only two players who are currently significantly above replacement level on the roster that have skills that would benefit just about any team.
Selfish players like KPJ aren't starter material. You'll realize soon if Rockets are lucky enough to get Scoot Henderson. KPJ will be the guy coming off the bench, not Green.
No you are assuming in your feelings, well most quality teams are filled at that position, and nobody is going to start a undersized combo guard at SF that is of quality, maybe spot bench minutes possibly Which is why I said they could possibly start for the other bottom feeders, which is why they are in perfect situation where they are at, and Cavs had to basically give KPJ away and no quality team came banging at their door to acquire him Sengun holds more weight because at least they gave up a couple 1st rounders to move up and acquire him, but the Rockets weren't a quality team at that point but were rebuilding bottom feeders as right now You are just bias in your thoughts n feelings and trying to deflect it on me, I speak from both sides of the coin, you take a slice of the pie, I use the entire pie(algebra) Being above replacement on a 10 win team is nothing to brag about, you look funny doing that, but if the shoe fits..........you know the rest
I honestly don't think we can even judge these guys until we see them playing under a somewhat competent coaching/system. No one on this team looks like they have any idea what they are doing offensively. They can't even figure out how to feed a guy who's hot.
Neither would, KPJ would just move to the 3 and be in an easier role for him as a secondary playmaker.
Based on their roles in their respective offenses, is Evan Mobley a fair comparison? Your arguments really do remind me of the fanfare people made over Tyreke Evans after he averaged 20ppg, 5rpg, and 5 apg in his rookie season.
Absolutely. Where does Evan Mobley get most of his looks? In the area refs will call the most fouls, in the restricted area when trying to do things like make a bucket off an offensive rebound. Okay you found an example of a bad player. Cool? Will you do any analysis of those two players outside of a box score like eye test?
And how does Mobley get most of his looks? In the post against a single defender who he tries to shoot over. Or open jumpers. Neither of which can reliably draw fouls, and it's laughable that you'd imply that he does. Mobley is a poor comparison to Jalen Green, and the fact that you're trying to make it shows how pathetically desperate you've become.
Green still has a ways to go. Hopefully he gets there. I hope Mathurin doesn’t end up being the better pick, for the Rockets sake.
