Why would we want McKey & Perkins for Hakeem?

Not that I think this is going to happen, but...

If Hakeem were going to go to Indiana, we could use Sam Perkins. We need all the big bodies we can get, and Perkins and Collier are not redundant. As of now, Collier does not have NBA three point range, and Sam is almost money when he's open. It's not even close to fair value for Dream, but I'd choose that over just letting Dream walk. Perkins could be a good option for us next year.

I'd rather have the caproom than those guys.

This is about as ridiculous as some of us who said that Sacramento would S&T Webber for Williams and Cato...

The thing is with Marc Jackson, we wouldn't have to fork over the doe. He is someone you can sign for the 4.5 exception.

This is BS. If this were to happen, which it shouldn't, the Rockets should demand at the least Jonathan Bender, Jermaine O' Neal, or Al Harrington. But knowing Vecsey, he is a fool and probably pulled this out of his asscrack.

If dream wants to leave for more money, I'd be happy to work this deal out. Speed has stated both are great locker room guys, and this deal would set up beautifully for next year's FA crop.

We can always use another big body in Sam Perkins as The Cat stated. Especially one who can stretch the defense to let our guards penetrate.

It's good to have a bunch of players in their last year at 4-6 mil range. It makes you a big player come trade time.

I've heard some people say that this trade would be good for next years crop. Wouldn't letting Dream walk with out taking these players leave us just as good as next year? And it would leave us cap flexibility for this year if we needed it.

I like Big Smooth but we don't need him nor do we need McKey.

I think that the concept (which I think was miscommunicated in the article) would be that McKey and/or Perkins would be cap filler, included to offset the Hakeem salary in S&T. You'd then include a younger lower priced player as a carrot for the Rockets.

I could see something like this:

    McKey
    Perkins
    Jeff Foster
    future #1

    for Hakeem

Foster is the carrot, a decent young player who needs PT. He is, however, overshadowed by their other young guys, like Bender and O'Neil. This makes me believe that he'd be easy for them to part with. He's a great fit, being a well above average rebounder, mobile, and able to hit the 'J' with some range. He is largly unproven, but has a nominal pricetag and is instantly better than any other Center on our roster.

I like the thought of him on the Rockets so much that I'm declaring myself the unofficial president of my newly chartered 'Jeff Foster for Houston Committe'.

McKey and/or Perkins can occupy the 'Charles Jones Memorial Chair' for the season, filling a roster spot while our various big guys endure their stint on the IR. At the end of the year, their 8M in salary expires, along with Walt's 5M giveing the team some potential cap money.

The first round pick is to help temper the pain of having to take on McKey and Perkins, and also gives us one (albeit a low one) when we lose ours to the Griz.

The Pacers apparently also have a Euro center 'prospect' named Primoz Brezec, whom they drafted last year. Supposedly 7'1" with some typical Euro type perimiter skills.

Is getting Bender a possibility? I would imangine that Coach Thomas is fairly high on a young talent like him. Hes a PF right? The Rockets could use him, or he could be a great deal more appealing as trade bait than what the Rockets have now! Is Bender too much like Griffin?

I agree any talks of S&T with the Pacers should begin with Jonathan Bender.

Having McKey on the bench would not be a waste, if only from the standpoint of having a mentor for Griffin, Morris, Langhi, etc.

The reason why Perkins has been around the last 5+ years is because of his savvy, too. Besides, Collier hasn't recovered from his knee injury, and even though it's a long way from November there isn't any guarantee he won't be on IR most of the year.

Well how about: Collier, Cato ,and a draft pick for Tsyon Chandler. It would make sense for that because Cato's college coaches Chicago and he may not know the truth about Cato.It might work but i dont want to lose KT [IMG]

Lafrentz would be a good fit for us next year, but he is not the solution for us at center.I would rather left Hakeem walk than sign McKey and Perkins sign with us.
Hakeem's trading value is not very high,he is no longer the brilliant center he was,but if we don't get a good center this year we will end up losing more games this year than last season.
If we don't get a young center who can contribute to the team's future right away,Taylor and Moochie will probably sign elsewhere.

All of those players are restricted free agents. I think all of those teams will match any offer that the player gets.

I think that's a little unfair. We'll need to throw in Walt for Eddy Curry to even it out.
