Do the republicans just see this guy as too horrible? How many people has he sh** on to make it this difficult Rocket River
The "Jewish Space Lasers" crowd think he is too much of a liberal RINO. If you didn't commit treason on Jan 6th, they don't trust you.
I would be supportive of this but in reality isn't that what we're dealing with given the current political climate and how much money already influences government action? It would seem there would be evidence of the smartest and most capable U.S. citizens not only vying for these political positions, but also winning elections to mandate policy that would be motivated by their own economic incentives that would somehow simultaneously take consideration for the greater good of everyday Americans. That does not appear to be the case, so I tend to find the argument of making money the primary attractor for engaging in politics to already exist and yet here we are.
Pretty sure he lost again. I see there are ten votes against him on the 10th vote. This is a bit silly, but I guess. I don't get politics sometimes.
I agree, I just don't understand why we are going to push this to an 11th vote. Can Democracy get them to get their head out of their ass and move on to another candidate finally? I'm being impatient, that's all.
Yeah only if the 20 choose who they see fit. Hopefully the rest of the gop has a spine and not let the extremists take control of the party. Considering the past I have my doubts
OK. I see what you mean. I thought you were saying that McCarthy wins currently if they had a plurality system. You're saying he should force the issue with a brinksmanship effort to stop Republicans for voting for other names besides him. I could see that backfiring on him badly and leading to Jefferies being the speaker. Even with no change there still the possibility of Jefferies becoming speaker. While Republicans won't say this openly it wouldn't surprise me if there are several who actually don't mind being in the minority. It means they can continue to be back bench bomb throwers without actually trying to fix things.
What we're seeing is reason why many don't want to get into politics. The backroom dealmaking, trying to appease factions, win influence, you know politics, is a big turnoff to many. On top of that having to campaign and raise money many don't like. [cool story] I was recruited to run for local office in Minneapolis and turned it down. One reason was because I was recruited by a third party and would've gotten slaughtered in my heavily Democratic district. The other reason was that I didn't want to put up with doing stuff like going door to door, making calls and all the other stuff. That's more reason why I don't think we can just expect people to run for and hold office just out of civic responsibility. We already have a problem with fewer capable people entering politics and with ideology being a big motivating factor is one reason why we get a lot of extremists entering politics. I would rather have smart capable non ideologically extreme people willing to become politicians knowing that they can make a living as well or possibly better than doing other things. Understand that there is a risk of a lot grifters, which we do get, but that's why ethic regulations and transparency is needed.
They need to check to see if there are bamboo fibers in the House and if Reps are making dumps, big dumps, in the middle of the night.
A hearty assist here needs to go to John Roberts, Anthony Kennedy "all Gerrymandering is ok because it just is" rule which is why you have wackos and shitforbrains in safe districts who don't give a **** about the general and only care about clicks dominating the caucus. When they invented the inalienable right to Gerrymandering in Rucho and other similar decisions - this was absolutely a foreseeable consequence. But, they did it anyway. Party over country on the Supreme Court too.
What is ironic is that if NY was allowed to gerrymander as much as state legislature wanted to the Democrats would have the majority and Jefferies would be the speaker. The NY legislature was stopped by the NYSC but if the USSC has rules for the independent state legislature theory as many think they will then whatever the NYSC says regarding gerrymandering will be moot.
