If he'd have wrapped his pipe, there wouldn't be a first born.

What's the update? Did you figure out which neighbor it was? I also don't talk to my neighbors, but I have gifted them with backing into their cars twice.[IMG]

Its pretty good practice to turn off your water before you leave town anyways.

    Pretty witty stuff Clutchfans.

Sounds like a great neighbor and this is why one of the best things you can do for homesafety is get to know your neighbors. I think a $100 gift card is a good idea. At the minimum thank him profusely and make sure to let him know you're ready to help him when he's gone, like mow his lawn, pick up mail, etc..

Have had a similar situation with my house while I've been gone in Asia and NZ for a month. I have some good friends that are looking after my place in minneapolis. Feeding my cat and we've had some pretty big snows while I've been gone, including a foot of snow just the other day. They've been shoveling and I owe them big.

My exe was supposed to stay at my house for at least a week but she's a flake and one reason why she's an exe.

How about you introduce yourself and thank him first. then you can decide what you think would be a good idea. If not 12 pack of negra modelo and some mushrooms.

I just make it a habit to turn off the water every single time I leave town no matter what, whether it's 2 days or 2 weeks.

But to answer your question, restaurant gift card in an amount large enough to treat him and his significant other. I tend to get the ones that cover a family of restaurants rather than just one, that way they have choices and can pick the type of food they like the best.

I have a story that's a little less happy. I was taking a walk around my neighborhood after Uri and noticed that a neighbor's house had water gushing out of the garage door seal and the front door seal.

The pipes had busted, but the house was unoccupied so it had been flowing for hours.

I tried to close the valve going into the house, but someone must have tried to winterize it by spraying it full of expansion foam, completely gluing it in place. So I wasn't able to turn off the valve.

Back then I didn't know about turning water valve off at the water meter with a curb key so I couldn't do anything.

The water kept running for at least 36 hours. It must have been a wreck inside. The house just sold a couple of months ago after a full reno.

Your neighbor really saved your bacon, OP!
