Send him to Golden State so he can improve under real coaches, become a allstar and win championships. The ball moves consistently over there.
I wonder at what point of his career people are going to realise he isn't going to be a superstar. I don't see many attributes which even scream 'star' at me. If he's not flying on the fast break, what exactly does he do well? The list of things he does poorly is a bigger one.
Really silly. Elite dribble seperation for one. Even in these bad shooting games recently he's getting to the rim consistently.
tbh folks try to speak it into existence so prematurely obviously bc the rockets are so desperate to get their first actual star since harden has been gone. He does have flaws that a lot of folks don't want to admit enough. The flashy plays get highlighted more but that should never overtake everything else almost halfway through his 2nd season. and the infamous 3rd year breakout looms. Very important time frame that every young player took a significant leap in, if they're actually that type of alpha for an nba winning team while continuing on that trajectory eventually reaching a pretty high ceiling if they're any good
Green? We legitimately have an entire team of chuckers. Gordon chuck, KPJ chuck, Green chuck, Smith chuck, Bird chuck, JC chuck
His poor shooting has been a disappointment. His shot mechanics need work. I swear they were better to start the season, but quickly deteriorated to their prior ways. Way too much movement with his arms and takes too long to release the ball.
Starting to worry a bit. Of course there’s the optimistic side of me that believes this is just the outcome of Green playing on a broken roster that forces KPJ to run point, under a coach who fails to instill any kind accountability or structure. Only 21 years old and hasn’t even come close to filling out his body. But man. Far too often, Green just looks like a freak athlete that’s now learning how to play basketball. He lacks so many fundamentals. And that’s scary for someone who’s also such a poor defender.
It really sucks that Silas encourages him and KPJ to chuck. Silas encourages everyone but Sengun to chuck.. Look how Gary is out there launching on one leg with no repercussions. These are kids who need their worst tendencies coached out of them not reinforced.. Everyone expects children to just know how to hoop at an elite level in spite of trash coaching. I think it's weird a lot of fans think they are just supposed to figure stuff out with no real vets to teach them, no structure, no direction, and no system.
He can get by any defender. That's his elite skill. If you combine that with his shooting percentages from last season after the all-star-break and hope he can get better at finishing through traffic and continue working on his floater, he definetly looks like a star on offense. Problem is his percentages have really dropped. Now I don't believe you can have a 3 month hot streak but can't reproduce that later for the majority of the season (at least close to that). So I am not too worried about him just being a bad shooter. But I do wonder, why he is so much more inefficient this year. The increased load and having a green light for basically any shot definetly play a role here, but I would have hoped he would be at least 3-5% better at all of his percentages. Now I don't know if that is a Green problem (meaning if he is at fault because of conditioning/practice/smarts/ego) or if that is a Silas problem (lack of system, bad coaching etc.). Probably a combination of both. But we definetly need to "fix" him pretty soon, otherwise he will max out as a Ben Gordon type player.
There is nothing a fan could do at this point except hoping for the best development. Yes, he is a quick player but didn't Doncic and Harden tell us that elite deceleration is as potent as or more potent even than acceleration in this league? This is not Formula One racing where one's speed is predominantly necessary.
A lot of players are going to become bad versions of themselves under this management and coaching staff.
Eagerly waiting the "Have the Houston Rockets become chuckers" thread! Probably captures the totality of the situation much better. Relax SOFs Im excluding Alpy from this thought since 5 foot baby hook shots are not really "chucking" -- maybe EVERYONE should start taking 5 foot baby hooks!
