This has made my day!!! I am going to every single event!!! I dont know if I have ever been more excited about Basketball in Houston!!!
Hell, I'll admit it, the Stadium issues are what changed me to vote democratically locally. (Still Republican nationally, though. My feelings are if I am going to spend taxes, I might as well spend them in my own backyard. However, I hate taxes more than anything else.)
Unless you're willing to pay big bucks, NBA All-Star tickets are amongst the toughest tickets to get in sports in the world because of the smaller size of NBA arenas compared to other tough events (Super Bowl, NCAA Finals, World Cup Finals - all events in large stadiums). I've been lucky enough to go to Oakland, Atlanta and Los Angeles. How to get tickets: 1. Work for a sponsor - not a Rockets sponsor, but an NBA sponsor - but if you're working on the NBA account, then you already knew that. 2. Be international press - a large large portion of seats are reserved for international television and media. Probably something like 300. 3. Win tickets - there's going to be contests from in-town radio stations, as well as national contest from NBA sponsors. 4. Have season tickets to the Rockets and win the All-Star game lottery - not every season ticket holder is going to get to go. I have friends in Los Angeles who have Lakers season tickets - and didn't get to go. Even if you have tickets, you probably will get moved upstairs even if you aren't already - but I don't know what the specific deal the Rockets worked with the NBA is - this is different every year. 5. Be a higher up at a Rockets sponsor - I'm sure the higher ups at Toyota, Budweiser, Poloroid, Direct Energy, McDonald's and others will be able to get in. 6. Scalp 'em - yep - ticket scalpers will get their hands on tickets. 7. Work for the league - a lot of league employees will be in town too. I don't want to be discouraging - because this is going to be great for the organization and the city of houston - but tickets will be very very difficult. I'm pretty sure they won't be on sale via traditional channels. Oh - and the Rockets/Toyota Center doesn't use ticketmaster.
And the 2011 Final Four. Which free of charge, I'll prognosticate the participants so you can contemplate whether or not to purchase tickets early. North Carolina, Texas, Indiana, and Ohio State.
looks like i'll be watching the game from the best seat in the house... my house, right in front of the tv...
I thought it was still speculation several months ago? Edit: I think we knew it was coming but we didn't know when.
There was discussion that we MIGHT get an all star game. Most thought it wouldn't be until 2007, though. The Rockets publically said they wanted it and the NBA had to tell them to quit bugging them about it. A representative for the NBA was here during the season to look over the Toyota Center for this very reason. But, no decision had been made until yesterday.
You forgot the Big 12 Football Championship game that we had at Reliant the year before last. I think it is going to be back next year.
That's exciting news! Does anyone remember the last NBA All-Star game in Houston? I remember going & being so pumped to see Magic, Michael, Hakeem, & more from the nosebleeds of the Astrodome. It was great! I ran into Kevin Duckworth outside the Dome after the game. Can you believe that guy was an All-Star? I have a feeling tickets are gonna be a little harder to come by this time.
Go Les Alexander!!! Didn't I read awhile back or hear that Les wouldnt stop bothering the league about us getting the all-star game...like that pesky little kid that asks when the family is getting somewhere. But, you guys forgot one thing on the list : 2006 NBA Finals! Prediction: Rockets vs. Detroit
