Not sure, but he wore 32 when he was with the Magic, and ironically enough couldn't get that with the Lakers because of well... Magic.
i also think this is the reason, i think 32 is shaq favorite jersey number. he just coudn't wear that number with the lakers because of magic, but now he can wear 32 again, so he will wear that number
And here I was under the impression that he wore 34 out of tribute to his boyhood hero, Hakeem Olajuwon. I could be wrong though. It does make sense about Magic of course having worn 32 in LA.
he wore 32 in orlando, and changed to 34 in los angeles probably because lakers wont let another player be number 32, cuz of magic, just like rockets didnt let scott padgett be number 34 in houston
For the record Magic was going to allow Malone to wear 32, ut at the time Shaq came to LA I guess he wasnt near Malones stature?
If Shaq had his pick, his number would be 33 which he wore in college. He could not wear this on the Magic because someone was wearing it when he was on the team so he chose 32. In LA, he could not wear 33 because of Kareem and he could not wear 32 because of Magic so he chose 34. Now that he is in Miami, he can not wear 33 because of Alonzo Mourning so he chose 32.
When Shaq signed with Orlando, he said he chose #32 b/c he wanted to honor his boyhood idol, Magic Johnson.
