it'd not be far-fetched to say that the ultimate quitter is off to the death panel, politically speaking.
These maps are always so misleading. Blue is generally a good indicator of population density but red is always rural. I'd prefer a three color map: Blue, Red and White (for no people).
Yikes - the likely next Speaker of the House https://www.mediaite.com/print/kevi...ker-he-lies-hell-change-the-lie-if-necessary/ Kevin McCarthy’s GOP ‘Mentor’ Scolds Him In Scathing Comments to the New Yorker: ‘He Lies. He’ll Change the Lie If Necessary’ Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) mentor scolded the House GOP leader in comments to the New Yorker in a report on McCarthy’s ongoing effort to secure the position of speaker of the House next year under a new slim GOP majority. Former Rep. Bill Thomas (R-CA) spoke with reporter Jonathan Blitzer about his former “protege,” describing him as a liar. Thomas previously offered a blunt and negative assessment of McCarthy after the January 6 Capitol riot, blasting him for his relationship to Donald Trump. The two Republicans worked together for over a decade, with McCarthy getting his start under Thomas. “The Kevin McCarthy who is now, at this time, in the House isn’t the Kevin McCarthy I worked with,” Thomas, 81, offered in an even more scathing review of his former colleague. Thomas described McCarthy as a chameleon willing to lie to get what he wants. “Kevin basically is whatever you want him to be. He lies. He’ll change the lie if necessary. How can anyone trust his word?” the Republican said. ... “He’s the guy in the college fraternity that everybody liked and winds up selling life insurance, convincing people they need it,” Thomas said. ... Thomas doesn’t have too much faith in McCarthy’s ability to be speaker either, blasting the Republican for promising investigations and to go after political enemies instead of promoting policy. “He’s already said, ‘As soon as I become speaker, I’m going after the Attorney General.’ Why would you want to spend your whole life trying to be Speaker to go after somebody? What are you for?” Thomas said.
Interesting.. That might've explained why Herschel Walker still made it close if a number of previously Democratic leaning voters from two years ago didn't vote. It is also still possible that the GA laws didn't have as much affect as voter turnout during Midterms is almost always less than Presidential years.
It's scary that a fake headline (record GA turnout) gets spread and gospel-ized (made up a word) then the TRUTH only gets seen by... me & you basically.
Well I wanted to believe Stacey Abrams "solved" the issue two years ago when she was lionized by the press. Midterms had mostly been a surprise for me as I thought voters would be more punishing with inflation and tanking stocks. Changing the rules of the game is sneakier and involves actual attention to catch. I guess one has to acknowledge Kemp jussst enough for not folding to Trump (thus potentially incriminating himself in any wrong doing and possibly jumpstarting a civil war) while knowing he/his party had the knowledge to legally subvert future results through institutional means, The narrative is that he was a Sane Con who didn't bow to MAGA seemed to be his reward by the media...
Yes the headlines do appear misleading. From what I recall though those headlines primarily had to do with some early voting numbers in certain parts of Ga among certain demographics. also we don’t yet have an apples to apples comparison. Midterms historically have lower voting turnouts so I think in 2024 we’ll have a better sense of how the GA voting laws affected things.
It took 9 years to certify PA election results. @Commodore faint. Pennsylvania certifies election results after recount delay | AP News HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania’s top elections official fully certified results from the November vote late last week after recount petitions in some counties had delayed the process, the Department of State said Tuesday. An agency spokesperson said acting Secretary of State Leigh Chapman completed certification of all races in the 2022 midterm election on Thursday. The final tally was issued less than two weeks before members of Congress and state lawmakers are due to be sworn in on Jan. 3. The inauguration of the state’s next governor, Democratic Attorney General Josh Shapiro, will be held Jan. 17. Recount petitions in at least 27 of the state’s 67 counties, covering 172 voting precincts, caused delays as some county elections boards waited until litigation was resolved before sending in their own certifications to the state. The Department of State said certificates of election and official results were shipped to Congress and arrived on Thursday — documents the agency had hoped to get to Washington by mid-December. Conservatives voicing concerns about the accuracy and reliability of Pennsylvania’s voting machines and procedures filed most of the petitions. The majority were dismissed, but county judges did authorize at least 19 precinct recounts in six counties that moved vote totals barely or not at all.
Kevin McCarthy appears to be in real trouble for speaker and the House could see for the first time in 100 years the House unable to agree on a speaker in the first ballot. Even if McCarthy prevails he’s made so many concessions to the extremes in his party the GOP caucus could be unworkable with the possibility of McCarthy being deposed anytime. All of this for a man who sold out so many principals just to get to the possibility of speaker. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/02/us/politics/mccarthy-speaker.html sorry for the pay wall article. I’m in my phone but will try to post some sections later.
