I was there with my grown son. When Yordan was up at bat, I was hoping for a sac fly to be honest. When he hit it, I kept screaming, “OMG! OMG!” Memories for a lifetime.
js McCormick is better at the back up spot we need a true CF and if every hates to pay the prices for a trade
I understand the price for another team's good players will be a steep price, I just don't think the Astros have the pieces to pay the price. Trust me, I would love to have Reynolds' bat in the lineup for the next few years. Switch-hitter with some power would be great. But I doubt a trade would start with anything less than Javier and I wouldn't do that. Anything else is a non-starter for Pittsburgh, despite them having been fleeced in the past. Mullins isn't much of an offensive upgrade. Thomas, McCarthy and Jung Hoo Lee all have as much potential uncertainty than what the Astros already have. So I'm good with just rolling with what the Astros have. Js
Are there any good, utility type veterans that have a decent bat and can pinch hit, play back up, etc. left? Mid level money type guys? I think it would be good to get a guy like that for backing up injuries or giving guys a day off. Someone that you don't cringe if they have to give you a quality at-bat with runners on.
So pretty much Alemys Diaz former role? Jurickson Profar is still a free agent and seems to fit that bill.
If you can play the infield positions, you can cover LF occasionally. Therefore you have described Hensley on the current roster and defensively Leon. Hensley, in a very limited sample, seems to hit for OBP against lefties and for OPS against righties.
Profar seems to be the best fit and would give the Astros 4 LH bats on days Altuve/Pena/etc sit. Iglesias is an elite defender and would be the best defender at SS off the bench. Duvall can slug but wouldn’t get enough AB’s too sign with the Astros. Whether they value adding a position player or a pitcher I’m uncertain.
Neither did Springer or Bregman in their first 100+ AB’s in the majors. Those AB’s are valuable too make adjustments in the minors.
I am hoping that is David Hensley's role. 4 bench spots 1) back up catcher 2) McCormick or another OF 3) Dubon 4) Hensley or whomever else gets signed or traded for. And Dubon is loved by Dusty, is extremely valuable (26th man who doesn't K, can run a bit and play everywhere), and has already been offered arbitration so he is not suddenly going to be thrown away. Any non C or OF position player brought in now takes Hensley's roster spot
You guys are crazy spoiled. Springer was an all-star center fielder. We weren't going to replace him with someone as good. We got lightning in a bottle with Pena, but we shouldn't expect that. McCormack is fine being an above average bat in the 8th spot. He's also a ever so slightly above average fielder in centerfield.
