My wife and I prayed for him by name. Please do the same. Medically, this does not sound good. Surprised there has not been a medical update.
Have the same awful feeling as when Hank Gathers collapsed. At least this athlete received more prompt medical attention, it seems. But if he could not breathe on his own for that many minutes, he has, at minimum I'd think, major brain damage. Poor, poor kid. Kinda hoping for a miracle.
Not necessarily, as long as he was intubated quickly. But everything is really up in the air and the longer we don't get good news probably makes it more likely there isn't any. Still trying to wrap my head around what happened. A neck injury could cause cardiac arrest and stop breathing, but it's not very likely, and the hit didn't look terrible. It honestly looks a lot like what happened to Christian Eriksen, with the tackle just being circumstantial. Really terrible. Twitter is worse than Somalia right now.
Vitals back to normal is somewhat a hopeful sign. But the "breathing tube" means he is on life support or a ventilator. All this is very concerning. Wish we had some test data to go on.
I would guess they're keeping him intubated as a precaution while they run tests. Overall it's about as positive as anyone could hope for at this point.
Probably right. We are all just grasping for straws at this point. I desperately want to hear some good news about the young man.
You think of that after someone is struck by a baseball or a hockey puck or projectile of some sort. Usually, 18 years or younger, but it is still a possibility. I am just going to bed praying for the young man. I hope I wake up to good news.
Without anything to go off of, I think that could be it, or something similar. Impact on the heart at such a force. He and Tee Higgins collided pretty hard, with most of Higgins' force first impacting Hamlin's chest area.
This is ONLY relevant in the sense that my mind immediately went here: I played hockey in college (2006-2010) and remember the rink telling us they now made defribrillators available near the ice at all times after a student/player died in 2005 due to a shot hitting his ribs. His heart was scrambled due to the sudden impact. This young player in 2005, Jaxon Logan, passed away tragically. https://www.deseret.com/2005/1/23/19873324/hockey-player-dies-at-game I pray that Damar will be fortunate from the immediate care he was given. It sounds possible. Fight hard, buddy.
Signs are not good. All of my hopes and prayers are with this kid. I assumed commotio cordis as soon as I saw it. There was quick action, but I assume he didn't get cpr or a defibrillator until at least a couple minutes after he collapsed. Even still, a lot of positives on his side. I don't put much stock into any of the tweet updates from tonight though. We likely won't know much for 24-72 hours. I hope this kid's alright. My heart hurts for him, his family, and the other players on the field, especially Tee Higgins. Hoping for the best.
