It’s pretty cool how the best players this draft are almost all non SG’s and PF’s. The top players are at positions that would slot into positions of need generally.
Hopefully if we end up with a top 5 pick they are at a minimum worth their spot, in the past two drafts i dont think there were any busts in the top 5 other than maybe Suggs? He seemed top 4 on nearly everyone except for Toronto's board. That was just good due diligence on their part, we have had it relatively easy drafting where we have drafted the past 2 seasons, it can get tough this next draft where we may need to actually make a tough decision for once.
https://basketnews.com/news-182999-...anking-notes-references-to-magic-johnson.html "Tanking? It's a weird strategy," Wembanyama addressed the issue. "I find it unreasonable, and I try not to think about it. I also heard that the NBA considered changing a few rules for me, but that doesn't concern me." The French phenomenon is yet to decide which NBA club he would like to join. "Even if I had it [in mind], I wouldn't say it. But I don't."
You want a high pick, not because you need it, but to keep another team from getting it. Do you really want Wemby or Scoot playing in SA or in the WC? Personally, I have serious doubts he can stay healthy, same with Chet, but no way the Rockets don't scoop him up if the top pick lands in the laps.
THIS BOY SMART!! STARTING TO LIKE HIM @Ankara1923 @LeDakota @aaquaa @DreamShook @PeterKingX @AroundTheWorld @J.R. @tinman @harold bingo @ExTxGS @conquistador#11 @CHAMPBOY @mirdirir @Joe Rocket @WestendMassive @Salvy @clutchdabear @berkowsk @j@amc @Killatron 2000 @Dovahkiin @ExTxGS @cmoak1982 @bmelo
What am I missing about how tanking guarantees practically nothing by way of draft position? The way I understand it, a bottom three record only gets you a 14% chance of landing #1, and only a 52% chance you even end up top 4. I believe the league adjusted it this way so as NOT to reward deliberate tanking. So are why are still entertaining all this? You can run the NBA draft simulator repeatedly and you will be disappointed how few times HOU lands at #1, and how many times it falls down as far as 7th.
Don't view it in a vacuum. How likely is it to acquire a franchise player through FA and trades? I'd add that high draft picks are useful in trades.
I understand how some fans want to see the rockets get back to winning quickly and don’t care for watching the team lose for a chance at a potential future star. And I can’t defend some of the roster decisions, our apathy for bettering the rebuild through trade, the glacial pace of player development and lack of team progress. I think there are clear signs that both the front office and the coach may not be up to par. but if there was ever a year to tank, especially given the current state of the team, this is the year. If we were truly growing as a team, playing up to our talent, we’d have a better record than last year to show for it. I’m aware there is plenty of season left, and there’s a chance we could be better the 2nd half, but year 3 into the rebuild, sitting at the bottom of the western standings, it’s clear we can use another chance at a franchise changing player. while I lack confidence in our org’s ability to develop good talent, a guy like Wemby (or even Scoot) could fundamentally change the direction of our rebuild for the better. If we really want to accelerate this rebuild and strengthen our org for the long term, we’ve got to roll the dice on one of the generational talents in this draft. Finishing in the mid-to late lotto gets us nothing and will only imperil our rebuild further. while I want to see progress on player development, I’m not eager to see that translate into wins with the season halfway over. We need to be going all out for a chance at Wemby. You better believe Detroit, Orlando, and Charlotte will do the same. If we are gonna suck this year, let’s make sure we get something for our suffering.
Before he was drafted people were sure he would be a giant dominating the competition for years. Has he EVER win a NBA title? Nope. Thats all
