Ouch! Fangraphs just lost mucho credibility by projecting Pena with -3.6 fielding. https://www.fangraphs.com/projectio...=bat&type=fangraphsdc&team=21&lg=all&players=
Another right handed righty specialist to go with our right handed lefty specialists. It doesn't matter which hand you throw with, it's how effective you are doing the job. Old school needs to get with the analytics.
"been a fair amount of activity in the thread since I checked last night, maybe there's a little news" Checks thread...nope, just the same guy posting 50 f**king times.
Just something to do when I can't sleep. Just 7 posts since midnight btw. That's a light night for me. I'll gladly trade you for ONE good night's sleep.
I'm like 99% sure that the difference is that Meyer's and Diaz were inactive during the WS. Lee was activated for the last game. Bannon and France were added after the playoffs, so didn't need to be listed as inactive. Maybe with that mystery solved, you can get some sleep.
Actually could not disagree more. There is no perfect stat, but WAR is pretty useful and among the better ones for establishing value. Season A: 6000 HRs hit and .750 is avg OPS Season B: 5000 HRs hit and .700 is avg OPS 30 HR and .800 OPS in season B is better than in season A and therefore higher WAR if all else is equal. 2019 was outlier very high hitting and run scoring numbers so a good season is not as much WAR. I haven't looked but pitching WAR should be higher for better seasons
The "active" roster doesn't mean anything until opening day Only players who were on it on the last day of the World Series and have been involved in a transaction since will be on the active roster Anyone who was on the 40 man but not active roster will stay there until he is added. There is no reason to add him in the off season unless a transaction was done ( adding to protect from rule 5, signing FA, trade, etc.) For example, because Maton is under club control since prior to the off season and he was not on active WS roster there is no reason to add him until the season. But he will be on the active roster when the season starts because he is out of options.
After a bit, even my example doesn't make sense after the season since they only get paid in season. It does explain the in season call-up of an injured player to the majors and then putting him on the 60 day DL.
I kind of understand what they are trying to do, almost like a reverse rebuild. In their mind they think they have top notch talent in the pipeline, instead of riding it out to see how they pan out then round out their roster with free agent signings, they are spending their money on the free agents now then counting on their young stars to come up and round out the roster later. Will it work? TBD I do think Seager will be the one that ends up performing very well for them for years to come. As far as their other signings I'm not so sure.
What I like about this is that the Reds need multiple guys. A few solid players will help that team more than a single stud closer. Urquidy, Jayden Murray, Corey Julks, and Pedro Leon for Diaz and one of their top AA or AAA INF prospects would probably help both teams. Murray and Julks were left unprotected from the rule 5 draft so it couldn't hurt too badly to lose them. Leon still has a high ceiling and value but with Barber, Gilbert, and Melton he can be included. Reds get 4 potential contributors on a team shallow of MLB talent. Astros get a high leverage bullpen arm of particular value in the playoffs and improve the INF (that is very shallow and weak) in AAA with a player who could possibly be a candidate to replace Altuve in a few years.
We missed out only if he would have been traded here and he chose to stay here. He still had his arbitration years before he was a FA. We do the same thing (offer to extend just before arbitration) and some players take the deal and some don't.
You'll be glad we didn't pay for Murphy in the not so distant future. Nothing special about that guy that we can't find elsewhere at the Catcher position.
If Murphy was open to that low of a contract I’m really surprised Oakland didn’t extend him instead of trade him. That’s a steal for Atlanta.
