Anyone seen these guys live? A good poster and a good friend of mine came through with some free tickets to the show, one I was wanting to go to, but couldn't due to the whole saving cash for Vegas and ring thing. I'm definitely pumped, but just wondering how good a show they put on.
I've heard mostly good things about them live. Saw them on TV a few times, and they were good. I wasn't too impressed with their latest album, but every live recording I've heard is great. Howie Day will also be performing tonight. I'm a big fan, but I saw him earlier this year (or last year -- don't remember) and he was totally unimpressive. The show wasn't even an hour long, and he didn't really add anything (except his disheveled appearance) other than the stock album stuff. I'm still undecided if I'm going. I don't know if I want to spend the money on the ticket or not. I'll be able to see OAR again I'm sure, and I don't mind missing Howie Day. Plus "They Might be Giants" is in town next Tuesday, and I might save the money for that instead. Tough decisions . . .
I figured you'd be the first one to pop into this thread...mission accomplished. You have any idea what time they'll come on? What do you think of the new DMB tunes?
Would you belive I haven't heard the new songs yet? I'm trying to insulate myself from DMB until the shows here I'm so happy that they've been starting to create new stuff pre-album though. They really haven't been doing that sort of thing for a few years (since Lillywhite sessions, mostly). All the newer songs, of which there haven't been too many since Everyday, were written first, then performed, whereas back in the day, they used to debut the song and revise it during shows, then when it was pretty much a "finished product", it'd go on a future album. I think I'm going to have to give in soon though The page at jambase said 8:00, so I'd guess 10:00 for OAR (I suspect they're headlining). Thing is, there are so many great shows coming up that I may need to save some cash, PLUS I still haven't bought the DMB Gorge Set, OR the live Guster album. I'm also looking for a new job right now and I'm busy with that, and money may become tight soon, but it'd be nice to relax at a good show tonight . . . hmmm -- might need to flip a coin on this one.
Lemme know a couple of things... If you go tonight and if you want a copy of the songs. I think you'll really like the new songs. I wasn't going to buy The Gorge right off, but $14.88 at Target was too good to pass up. An amazing "LIOG", but I'm sure you've heard it.
Well great, now you did it to me -- I couldn't resist, so I just bought the 6 CD set (I even have the bootlegs of all 3 shows, but NO, I had to buy the box set . . . ), the Dave and Friends Live at Bonnaroo download, plus a poster . . . Well, no OAR tonight, and I'll even be nearby, but I really can't afford it if I'm going to see two or three shows next week, plus this . . . no worries though, they'll be back . . . Have fun tonight and let us know how it was! Pay close attention to Howie Day -- I give it a 50-50 chance he's drunk or high.
i used to be a big OAR fan, but i really dont listen to them much anymore. a few of my buddies are going to the show in austin (hell, they might have already gone for all i know). i saw em at ACL last year and left rather unimpressed, but i gave them the benefit of the doubt since it was only an hour set. good music to listen to at a party since they have some real catchy/happy hooks, but their ridiculously elementary lyrics can get quite stale rather quickly. as for dmb, i've only heard one of the new songs, but i liked it. i told myself that i'd get tickets to the show(s) in the woodlands, but so far their setlists haven't been all that impressive. i'll probably still go though.
i went to the show and it was definitely good. i was surprised with how good matt nathanson is live and OAR was also pimp. too many crowd surfers and annoying drunk girls though.
