It’s kinda funny how the old days you got shot, your youth (which I’m assuming you are saying you’re old but correct me if wrong) you got your ass kicked… seems to be moving in a less hated position, and then now, which is many years later, here we are.
What about a Kansas City Royals trade? Maybe M.J. Melendez C/OF, Angel Zerpa LHP and Tyler Gentry for Korey Lee, Jake Meyers, Phil Maton, Joe Perez and Forreat Whitley? Would give the Astros a LHP for the BP. A young C slash OF who can still learn from Maldy in Melendez and a late COFer in Gentry who may be able to take over for Brantley whe he finally decides to call it a day
Thanks for the early morning project. Three Team Trade Astros Get: Trout (8) $283.6 M 37.8 Rendon (4) $152.0 M -132.3 Ohtani (1) $30.0 M 61.1 Sandoval (4) $25.2 M 39.0 Melendez (6) $11.0M 29.5 Net Financial INCREASE $469.6 M Royals Get: Ward (5) $3.5 M 36.2 Bachman (6) $6.6 M 3.6 Whitley (6) $5.0 M 2.0 Baez (6) 4.6 M 1.3 Net Financial INCREASE 4$.6 M Angels Get: McCormick (4) $19.1 M 31.5 Carasco (6) $3.5 M 0.5 Lynch (5) $4.1 M 13.6 Net Financial DECREASE $474.2 M Based on Angels committing to a rebuild, the Royals building through numbers of high Boom/Bust prospects and the Astros pretending to be the Mets. ps This is a perfect trade according to the game with no excess value to any team. (I used $3M for a 0 rated prospect for 6 years of CC and added/subtracted excess value to estimate Salary)
Active Roster after theoretical trade: R 2B Altuve 5.1 R 1B Abreu 4.2 L LF Alvarez 6.8 R CF Trout 6.3 R 3B Bregman 4.5 L LF Tucker 5.2 R SS Pena 4.8 L DH Ohtani 3.4 R C Maldonado 0.2 Bench L C2 Menendez 0.5 L DH/LF/PH Brantley 1.3 R IF Hensley 0.3 R OF Meyers 0.5 Pitching R SP1 Ohtani 6.2 L SP2 Valdez 3.7 R SP3 Javier 3.7 R SP4 Sandoval 3.5 R SP5 McCullers 1.4 R SP6 Brown 0.9 R CL Pressly 0.9 RP1 Montero 1.3 RP2 Neris 0.5 RP3 Abreu 1.3 RP4 Garcia 1.4 RP5 Stanek 2.2 RP6 Urquidy 1.3
First thing that comes to mind is the commercial. "This is your brain.....this is your brain on drugs".
Indulge me while I fantasize. Please do not think for a second I EXPECT THIS. First, Crane would not add $111.6 M to the AAV to about $320M. He doesn't have Cohen Money.
If anyone wants some post Christmas misery, MLB network is recapping the top 20 "greatest" games. 1:30 PM eastern is Game 6 1986, Astros Mets. Voted 5th best game. This series originally aired in 2012.
If the team had Gurriel in addition to the current 5 OF there is only room for a backup catcher and either Hensley or Dubon. That's 13 players.
Thanks! Caught “season 2” of Ken Burns baseball last night (came out in 2010)… really did a great job on covering details of the strike as well as the steroid scandal. Did a tremendous job of showcasing the hypocrisy of those looking the other way when it benefitted business/the game…. But when Bonds became involved, people started to pontificate about the evils. Have to think if there’s ever a “season 3”, they’ll do a great job of dissecting the pervasive sign stealing issues and how the Astros were singled out yet the media decided to look away at any other teams potential involvement. In fact they did mention the Bobby Thompson Giants’ illegal sign stealing operation as an example that as far back as the game has gone, there has always been ‘cheating’ of some form. That and the fact that the Astros built the dynasty that the Expos thought they had in in the 90’s (where the strike killed that team) would make a great parallel between the two eras. I never thought MLB network would turn into year-round viewing… but between the World Series/season recaps, the hot stove league, baseball documentary, “greatest games” episodes… and the occasional little big leage/ROY kids movies, its basically the only channel that gets dedicated viewing nowadays.
What players? I'm not seeing the math... Hensley, Lee, McCormick, Dubon, and Yuli Gurriel if they add a CF. This assumes Yuli... would be 9 in lineup, 5 on bench leaving 12 pitchers. Also, while we can do 13 pitchers, we don't need to given the depth.
Crane would do that deal and just trade away trout and ohtani For the value that the angels didn’t get and get them off the books lol. This is an insanely lopsided and unrealistic trade for multiple reasons the Least of which is Salary coming back to Houston
Pressley Montero Stanek Abreu Neris Who are you valuing for the final 2 bullpen spots over positional depth? Do we need Maton and Martinez?
I am loath to continue this discussion so this will be my last post on the topic (guilty till proven innocent) because your question sounds serious. The old days I am referring to are most of history. Up until 150 to 200 years ago a man defending his or someone else's reputation from unfounded accusations with deadly force was commonplace. Duels with pistols or swords for this reason alone account for many thousands of deaths. In less formal society uncounted numbers probably into the millions have died over time. Men in society have physically punished bad behavior including these kind of lies without hesitation until the idea that we should be more tolerant of bad behavior began to be espoused a couple of generations ago and have since become pervasive. I got into this by responding to a post I considered to be unacceptable. Several people reacted strongly to my post. I suspect I did a poor job explaining my line of thinking because I was not anxious to stray into a topic that does not belong here. I am happy to continue this discussion with you or anyone who is interested in a place better suited to that purpose. I will not respond here on this subject again. Thanks for your understanding.
I do not think it comes down to who, but how many. We have a manager who has shown he is unwilling to utilize long relief for more than a couple of innings and rarely for that many. If all your relievers are of the single inning variety you have to carry more of them to cover the innings needed.
The only teams willing to give value would be direct competitors like the Yankees, Dodgers, Mets, etc. So, I'm not sure Crane would deal Trout--much less Ohtani--assuming this absurdist fantasy of a deal came to fruition.
