Exactly, we don't have a Gabriel Moreno to trade. I don't think some on here have any idea how valuable Moreno is as a trade piece
I even mentioned that his easy going ways was perfect for the team in the 162 game season But hey, if you want to see hate, i'm sure your eyes can see hate
The only thing I disagreed with Baker that lasted more than couple of games was Chas. He played well enough to be a full time starter and was a no brainier against lefties.
Because he is a gold glove caliber CF, which is why they are trading for him. They will move George to a corner OF spot They are really good now for the next couple of years, in fact they are probably good enough to get to the ALCS before getting spanked by the Astros
And this is why nothing happened with us and the Diamondbacks. That asking price is just stupid, and I’m shocked the Blue Jays went through with it.
Why on earth would they trade Thomas and Moreno? Thomas was a consensus top 25 prospect who showed promise despite underwhelming rookie numbers. Moreno is a top 10 prospect in baseball at one of the most valuable positions. It would be of no benefit whatsoever for the D-Backs to trade either of them. And it would take A LOT more than Garcia and Whitley to get them.
Toronto feels like the wasted a tremendous opportunity last year. They have a huge payroll. They’re in total win now mode and probably feel like they should be the favorites to win the AL East next year despite what the Yankees did. They’re not going to wait on prospects at this point.
But..but...we have this pitcher who is now 25 that used to be a top 5 prospect but has thrown only 80 innings in the last two seasons. Plus, we have this catcher who can't seem to be good enough with the bat to be able to backup one of the worst offensive players in all of baseball. And then we have this reliever who is probably the 13th best pitcher on this team, and he comes with one year of control! Don't forget about that CF who had a serious injury and doesn't seem to be quite healed physically (and maybe mentally). Not to mention that corner IF whose played 244 games in 5 years. That has to be good enough to get top tier talent, right?
Prices this offseason are crazy. Free agents in time and tradeable players in talent. It's no wonder Crane has not made many deals. If only they were a team looking trade away players instead of acquiring them.
Springer was already pushed to RF when they signed Kiermaier. Varsho is probably in LF. They have a lot of flexibility now with DH and outfield.
Lol. Not gonna say it’s an overpay or not but it should highlight what the going rate for Varsho was and why we weren’t going to get him from Urquidy, Matón and a prospect
What a deal for Toronto. I imagine they were trying to get away from Moreno before all the shine was off. High floor but not high ceiling with the complete lack of power for him. Gurriel is Chas McCormick with a more famous last name.
Yeah but they essentially gave up Gurriel (OF) for Varsho (OF). So your theory doesn't fly. It's not like Varsho was acquired to be their everyday catcher.
He's 4 years younger, can catch, play DH, and its not like Gurriel is expected to get that much 'better' during their contending window. He wasn't the centerpiece of the trade either. I see this more as their Hernandez replacement, but again with more versatility.
OK, so who is left that the Astros might want? All those they have targeted after signing Abreu have signed with other teams.
