I like our trend of losing to the teams we are competing with for high draft picks and sneaking up on the teams + .500.
I wish our kids took 12 days to learn and know all things NBA basketball A little thing called experience matters.
they are tanking being realistic, of course the "go to" year would be 23-24 season, where 40M of cap space is cleared. I honestly think that if Wemby wasn't on the draft, the FO would already have taken action to build a better foundation in coaching, developing already this year. But since the coaching staff sucks, we are unintentionally-yet-intentionally tanking.
Well Trae is demanding out apparently and he's 24.. averages 10 assists a game but can't guard well. He might fit our timeline and we have the cap space too so maybe the rebuild isn't going to take as long as we thought
Have to tank, as of now The Rockets have only drafted two great players in Jalen Green and Smith Jr.... They need a third star and Wemby is a true generational talent....
With the current developmental state of the team, I have no problem with losing as long as I see improvement. I'm not an advocate for purposely tanking because of the loser mindset it instills in young players, that, I believe, stymies their desire to get better: "Why work hard if we're trying to lose?" I believe in gathering young talent, developing the talent, finding the right mix, and developing a camaraderie and cohesive unit by playing hard as **** to win every game. If you lose? No big deal as long as they learn from it and continue to get better. I see it happening. Slower than I wish, but I think Silas takes more blame for the losses than the youthful bone-headedness of our roster should merit. That said, I would not be averse to an upgrade in the coaching staff if the upward trajectory does not accelerate steadily. Get out there, play hard, and win or lose...it's okay...this year...clap clap
It’s called you’ve been whining for a long time and lack of understanding of what a full rebuild actually is. Most of y’all can’t handle it obviously which is why folks like you bittch and complain everyday like it matters
I agree with ATW on pretty much all his points. I will say though in regards to "tanking", we have gotten a bit lucky the past 2 years to get both #2, and #3 knowing the odds. Even if we are the worst team in the league we'll still be lucky to be in the top 3 again because it's nearly a 50% chance that your pick is #5, and only like a 14% chance of 1. So the odds that we end up getting Wemby or Scoot are still pretty slim. So we might be "tanking" again for a Cam Whitmore instead of Wemby in the end. So in order for "tanking" to be a smart move is if you believe that #5 in this draft has exponentially greater chances of being an all-star over Jabari or Jalen. All that is to say I don't exactly know if Stone/Fertitta are banking on the tank, and openly trying to rig games by keeping a crappy coach and a crappy PG on the floor. It's probably a better bet for the organization honestly to try and develop Jalen and Jabari into star players by putting them in the best situation to win than it is to intentionally tank and suck in order to have a 14% chance at a generational talent who.... won't likely be a star for 3 to 5 years anyways if he can stay healthy & develop. So are we tanking???... I sure hope so to confirm that Stone isn't as bad as this team & Silas are making him look, but at the same time I wish they weren't because I would rather cash in your chips while you are ahead, and put more of an emphasis on turning Jalen & Jabari into foundational pieces. That is a smarter & less risky strategy than putting them in a situation to develop bad habits, a bad attitude, lack of respect for coaching, and ultimately putting them in a position where they'll want out just as they are getting good.
Team is not tanking - Stonetitta just got it wrong. They got high on their own supply and thought they had maybe 2 franchise players in 21. Turns out they are closer to having 0. They would've had Banchero stumble into their clutches this year but didn't, so they BAPped into Smith, who is elite 3&D someday but not much else. Meanwhile they're out here extending KPJ like he's a future all star, extending Jaesean Tate despite no real reason to do so, playing Texas Hold em with Gordon and losing. Silas is committed to their bit. Add it all up and it's an inadvertent tank like Detroit and Charlotte this year. The best(worst?) kind.
They are this bad, and this board is going to implode next year when they are still this bad, and we will be discussing the odds of retaining the pick.
Losing is not the problem, playing Gordon, Nix instead of TyTy and Christopher is a big problem. Not having a competent and unselfish Point Guard to pass to your building blocks our your rebuilding process. We have talent but no leadership on the court or on the bench.
Plenty of delusional fans who think Silas is a good coach and KPJ is a future superstar, claiming we'll be eating crow if we just wait long enough. They'll just keep claiming to give it time and that things will turn around.
I don’t really care what the strategy is up until this point, TBH. What I care about: if we remain on this current (and very familiar) trajectory, that we shut people down at the proper time and embrace the full on tank to close out the season. Maximize your odds. I know they’re not great odds, but there’s a generational talent in this draft. Possibly even two. You saw the Woj Tweet. Wemby could add $500M in value to the franchise. More importantly, he looks like he has the it-factor to lead this clueless bunch. Three years of sucking, turning the TV off, playing “down by 20, drink”, and watching vomit inducing basketball is alllllllllllllllllllllllll worth it if we end up with Wemby.
