Correct be was disappointing. Sure didn't help that he never knew when he'd play.

Certainly you're not projecting that small sample size to what he would have done over a 3 year period?

How about looking at the 3 year period I was referring to with the Red Sox?

I know. And yet they single Chas out as the Moron to tell stories about and shake their head in bewilderment. You keep trying to argue with me but you are actually proving my point.

Right. I mean he could of batted 100 points less and had two historically poor seasons in a row.

Forgot to mention his pitcher whisperer status. Lol

I wonder if they’d do Moreno for Tucker. I wonder if we’d do Moreno for Tucker. I can’t imagine we would. They ought to at least consider it. If Meyers would have broken out that’s a deal you could consider.
I think I’d do Tucker for Moreno if we also traded Maton and Dubon for Bryant. I think so. You’d have Bryant for 6 years and Moreno for 6 years and it would cost you about 150M combined for those 2, vs having Tucker for 3 years at about 40M.
Tucker has 82M in surplus value and Moreno has 53M in total value. That seems light to me, but maybe not. Astros have all our top prospects at OF. I’d seriously consider it and probably ultimately say no.

I'm not interested in what a player was once upon a time, I'm interested in what they are now, what they were when the team needed them. Vazquez was absolutely terrible here and I don't think anything I saw from him would justify 10+ mil a year for 3 years which is the minimum it would have taken to keep him here.

Looking at his career, you just never know what you are going to get from him, his OPS+ could be 100, it could be in the 70's.

Maybe we'll look back on this one day and say "Man, if we only had a slightly better backup catcher, we'd have won it all", but I don't think that's all that likely.

It just seems like a non-issue. What are we talking about here, someone who MIGHT have been the 11th or 12th best hitter on the roster for 10+ mil a year?

Stop with all the chas slander.
Homie f*cked up Gerrit Cole, has killer dance moves, and made one of the most important catches in franchise history.

Well I wasn’t arguing, I was just making a joke about Tucker. That’s not really how I “argue”. I’m honestly not sure that I believe that his teammates have singled him out as being incredibly stupid. I mean, I’ve heard his interviews. He doesn’t strike me as a shakespeare enthusiast or a college professor type but he does seem like your typical dude from Philly. But his teammates saying that about him? Hard to believe.

Moreno, Springer and Lourdes still comes up short for Tucker on the trade simulator. Not happening!

Looking at Tucker for Moreno AND Thomas and trying to figure out what the Diamondbacks want that the Jays have that's worth Thomas.

Any word on a lefty FA for the bullpen? Dusty has wanted one for a long time.

5+ yrs of control for both Garcia and Meyers for a catcher? Moves like that will end the window.

Absolutely correct if he was just ANY catcher. Garcia has 4 years of control and Meyers is more of a question mark than 2 years ago. This will look better in 2025 than immediately.

No catcher in baseball is worth trading that much for. People need too chill on the idea that we can’t win without an all-star hitting ninth.

Varsho is a gold glove outfielder who hit 27 HR’s stole 15 bases and has four years of control and I’d still have reservations about dealing Garcia for him straight up. Pitching is everything and no one in the AL beats the Astros rotation.

I’d say best remaining free agents Astros have been linked too or could be a fit:

    Barnhart (32, 0.9 fWAR)

    one of:
    Segura (33, 5.1 fWAR)
    Andrus (34, 5.1 fWAR)
    Iglesias (32, 2.7 fWAR)
    Drury (30, 3.2 fWAR)
    Longoria (37, 3.0 fWAR)
    Duvall (33, 3.6 fWAR)
    Peralta (35, 3.4 fWAR)
    Profar (30 1.9 fWAR)
    Conforto (30, 1.4 fWAR (2021)

    one of:
    Eovaldi (33, 6.7 fWAR)
    Kluber (37, 4.5 fWAR)
    Greinke (38, 3.1 fWAR)
    Rogers (32, 2.5fWAR)
    Chafin (32, 2.3 fWAR)

Apparently the discrepancies between fWAR and bWAR can be HUGE.

They are likely looking for better quality...

Varsho is really good but unlikely ever going to be an allstar.

For me, a fair price is Diaz, Leon, Perez, and a low level pitcher... addresses immediate needs for them and they likely won't impact our team unless there are injuries.

I really want to hold on to Yainer Diaz and Forrest Whitley. While they have existing flaws, they also have plausible scenarios on their range of outcomes where they could become All-Star level players.
