I've learned a long time ago never to doubt Cameron and his ability to craft blockbusters. And yet I still was a little skeptical about returning to Pandora after so much time had passed since the first Avatar. I'd say about a third of the way into the movie I was completely immersed again in this world. Just another incredible experience, and almost everything is bigger and better; the cgi, the action, the story. My only complaint is the use of Stephen Lang's Quarritch. He went from a strength in the first film to a weakness here. You could fit any character into his role and the film wouldn't miss a beat. It's such a beautiful film too. At times it felt so realistic and I'm definitely considering watching it again in theaters.
I'll just say this about the movie. 10 years after the hype died down, I'm considering buying 3D TV again.
There was a time when visuals in film were everything to me. Not anymore. I'm putting my foot down! And, I won't accept just any old alien species into my venaciular. Oh no! No sir! When I lay my head down and go to sleep at night, I'm not just two-time avatar hater surf guy. No sir! I'm five-time avatar hater surf guy (cause there will be four sequel films eventually right before this is all said and done?). And, all this...then...all of this...would have been worth it! And, I can stop this endless search (of avatar hatred).
James Cameron is Canadian and the male lead is Sam Worthington an English born Aussie. But since the movie is beautiful and Worthington is more Aussie than Brit, I will discount my anti-Brit leading man of American blockbuster agenda and see the film.
Ate some fungus, watched it in Imax 3d, walked out about halfway cause the movie was so bad and watched Devotion(highly recommend). The movie was over 3 hours- the visuals were good, the actual movie was so damn corny, I couldnt sit through the entirety of it.
I’ll eventually see this, but man, this movie is over 3 hours long…I feel like no movie needs to be that long so far, this movie is doing well overseas, but has fallen a bit short domestically The film snared $134 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend, short of the $175 million that industry analysts had predicted, and just under the $135 million to $150 million range that Disney had forecast. I’m surprised a movie this big had an opening weekend less than Wakanda Forever which did 180 mil domestically kids are finishing up school, and it is the holidays, so this will probably dominate until Ant-Man
