Really glad we got one of Uncle Mike or Conforto. We must feel good about his shoulder. Guessing Conforto is out. I could’ve seen Benintendi + one of Conforto/Brantley, but not both Brantley and Conforto…too much overlap. I’d be ok with a Kluber signing, assuming that means we’re trading Urquidy for an upgrade.
Yeah bc the Astros didn’t offer him a contract for 2022 it was 2022 and 2023 and it was for like 13M. Which he knew he was going to get more this year. So, rather than sign for short money and come back in September he said pass.
Rest of 2022 and 2023 for $30 million was reported. Boras said that wasn't accurate. Is there another source showing $13 million total?
Pena is so advanced, he went through his Rookie Wall (June), Sophomore Slump(July/August) and Post Season Seasoning in one season(September/October). He's a vet now.
How is Benintendi+Brantley not more overlap than Conforto+Brantley? Benintendi has played only LF 2020-2022. Conforto played only RF in 2020 and 2021. He also played more CF than Benintendi in 2019. If anything, Conforto could push Tucker to CF. Riight now Alvarez+Brantley is plenty for LF. ABs can probably be had in CF and 15-20 in RF.
Not saying either is a good CF option, but you’d think the one with a recent gold glove could man it more competently. Either way, I don’t expect to get both Brantley and Conforto.
I think they are gonna push for a CF. McCormick as a 4th Ofer and insurance on Brantley it just seems like its the play
March came early this year. The plan was to wait for March. Oh well, I wanted a split contract, but I guess they liked the reports or decided a one year deal was worth the risk.
Conforto can play CF. He and Brantley are coming off injuries and can rest plenty with Chas as the 4th OF.
Brantley also get his 277 PA from last year to go with Mancini's 186 or 463 PA. But more come at DH than LF.
I'm buying Comforto on the same 1 year $12M with $4M incentives we gave Brantley. But my guess is BorASS won't sell.
Just give him the 2 year deal. I love having Brantley back but he could just as easily get hurt again. Or someone else. We need proven depth especially for the postseason.
The jig number was always nonsense and prorated so it would look like a big number but my understanding was it was going to work out to something like 2M and 13M in 23. Might it have been 2 and 15? Maybe. But it was always prorated so the number never made sense.
There's a natural tendency for fans not to want any questions or risk in the roster heading into the season. A lot of that is logical because we understand how rare runs of this type are, and we don't want the owner to squander a year because he didn't want to overpay to fill a spot that projects to have an unproven player in it. And none of Houston's current young players are the type of prospects you make room for. But Brown (SP), Diaz (DH/C), Lee (C), and Meyers (CF) are each potential 3+ win players who have a chance to get established this season and be long term pieces that can extend the window. We've all seen the tweet of Brown's delivery mirroring Verlander's, and we saw how great he was when he came up this year. You can look at Cal Raleigh to see Lee's potential, and Carlos Santana to see Diaz's. And Meyers had a GM putting his job on the line to give him a shot; a 20/20 CF with elite defense is still a reasonable upper limit outcome for him, as soon as this season. So while I do consider myself in the majority of fans who want Crane to spend up to the tax and ensure there are no unproven players expected to make major contributions, if that doesn't happen I will be optimistic in the hope that one or more of those guys emerges. Not many people (myself included) were all that stoked about the idea of Pena replacing Correa at this time last year.
100%. Brantley and Abreu were moves that HAD to be made. Anything else is more about what we dream could happen.
