Reminds me a lot of Josh with his arm talent and athletic ability. With a good oc this kid might be a steal. Josh was raw also going into the draft.
The physical talent is off the charts, there’s no doubt about it. And he has a clean throwing motion. But he’s even more raw than Allen was…..by a lot. Now, if you could guarantee that kind of transformation. Id take him number 1 overall
Agreed. From the neck down Richardson is an amazing prospect. He reminds me a lot of Randall Cunningham (the Eagles version of course). If his mind and his dedication to getting better matches his physical abilities, he is my guy at the Cleveland pick (or after a slight trade down for someone to come up for Levis or another falling prospect). The fact that he is coming out is a bit of a red flag for me. It would have been better for his development to stay at Florida another year. However, that is easy for me to say not having to risk millions of dollars on the decision. So I am still open but but he would have to make an impression on me in interviews. Candidly, the thing I want in this draft is Will Anderson, a QB of the future and more picks. So trading down and getting Richardson is really appealing.
Not against any of this at all, but let's talk through taking defense 1st and project QB 2nd. You know project QB will not see the field next season, so you need a vet placeholder/teacher for probably 1 to 2 seasons. You will have no idea, outside of what you see in practice and the film room, if project QB is actually your QB of the future until he actually plays. Are you punting again on next season? Are you trying to use your FA money to make the team better? To what extent? To make the team good enough win 7 games and just miss the playoffs? Then the next year if your project QB doesn't pan out you start the search over again?
Exactly. Not to mention, by times these extra picks from the Watson trade are made, we'll just be getting comfortable with this guy's development and whether he is a viable quarterback or not. No thanks. Draft Young. Strike it rich and then trade back next year and get a boatload of more picks.
Like I said before Richardson is like a lotto ticket. If I was in the Ravens shoes I would pick him in the 3rd rd. If Caserio drafts Richardson at 2-32 then I hope he's willing to draft Duggan at 4-103 . Let them fight it out for the starting position and when one gets hurt put the other one in. Draft Carter and a guy like Verse in the 1st then draft Richardson at 2-32 and Mauck and Beebe in the 3rd, plus Duggan at 103 and I would be happy. Draft a guy like Dell in the 5th and I can guarantee you the team will be better. Will it win championships in the next 5-10 yrs? Probably not, but I would take this longshot over drafting 5'10 185 lb Young if Cal absolutely has to have a QB,
I'm not overly impressed with this years QB class. Looking back at past drafts and QB that went early because they were the NFL prototype makes me think this is the year to think outside the box. If the Texans take a QB with their 1st pick it should be Young. Then daft a more raw talent later like Duggan or someone that needs time to develop their game. Just incase Young for one reason or another does not pan out they have a backup plan. Kind of like a RG3/Cousins type of deal.
Realistically, this team won't be playing for much after the first 10 games next season almost regardless of who they select. They're bad. So the project QB would see the field when the games are out of hand or when the team is out of contention. I'd think that'd be enough film to make a pretty good educated guess with the addition of training camp, practice and meetings during the season. FYI: my 2 project QBs are Richardson and Ward. I think a promise to select the hometown kid in the second, maybe the third, could bring him out after the OC he followed to WSU bounced to North Texas.
Seems like every out of nowhere QB would've been the sure fire no.1 pick in the previous drafts.. They said the same thing about Bryce Young like year.. Now no one likes him at 1..lol .. Yall knew he was short last year too
But the fumble ruins the game because it came at the worst time. It seems as though these high-pressure situations bring out the worst in Davis. Today was just another example. Call was questionable, but you can always count on the refs to screw you. It's like clockwork.
