What are you getting the kids in your life? I am looking to get them I got two 12 yrs ladies and a 10 yr old and 6 yr old boy. Older kids may just want money Seeking suggestions I think the girls want phones but that is out The boys something electronic Rocket River
For me, outside of the situation of knowing exactly what they want or need, money/giftcards >>> How do I explain to 15+ family members that the vast majority of the stuff that's gifted to our kids for birthdays and Christmas goes virtually untouched? It makes me feel terrible, and saying "money or nothing, please" also feels terrible.
I got the 2 grandsons (15, 12) Bose QC45s. The 10 year old granddaughter got a $450 HP laptop as a birthday/ Christmas gift (birthday is 12/24). The 7 year old granddaughter a couple of lego sets. And the 5 year old granddaughter wanted a boat for the bathtub.
I got myself....er, uh.....I got my boys (both 11) a new basketball goal with a glass backboard for the backyard and a ping-pong table. Also got the guitar player a new wa wa pedal and the drummer a new double-bass pedal. Plus a ton of Astros and Rockets gear. This is the first year they don't give a crap about toys. Or the elf on the shelf. It's kind of surreal.
12 yo daughter loves playing me in plain ol' Connect 4...so I picked this up for her for Christmas... And my son, who has self-taught himself on guitar over the past year and a half...
He bought a relatively expensive (for him) guitar and planned on routing it and adding an additional pickup. So I thought instead of him possibly screwing up a nice guitar, I'll give him one that he can royally F up without any concern of messing up one of his primary guitars. It was only around $100 bucks. Should be a really cool project for him.
That is the coolest thing I've ever seen. Perfect for a kid who loves to build stuff and also plays guitar. Which describes mine to a tee. Wish I would have seen this 2 weeks ago!
I got my 10 year old son a bucket, some high-quality rags and turtle wax for Christmas so he can learn to wash my car.
I hope you're going to make it clear that he has to work off the cost+33% APR of the equipment. MAGA blocks?
Pro-parenting tip: Set up Slickdeals alerts on brands you will buy your kids, like Hot Wheels, Lego, Magna-Blocks, Knex, specific console games, board games, whatever. As deals pop up throughout the year, buy them at a deep discount. Stick them in the closet so you can give them to the kids at birthdays, Christmas or give away to other kids for birthday parties. 90% of my Xmas shopping for kids is done this way and it saves me a ton of money. The downside is that I occasionally have too much to give, but it can always stay in the closet until the next gift-giving occasion. Lego is also one of the best medium-term investments you can make, so you can always sell the sets in 5-10 years for at least a 100% profit.
How do you guys handle 1 year olds? My daughter has everything she needs, don't see the point of giving her a present.
I told my dad that he didn't have to get her anything. I still have unopened toys from her bday. She blessed. Thankfully don't have a big family so hopefully not many gifts.
I do this exactly. Except for the selling of legos bit. I have toys leftover from last Christmas that are still in hiding, a couple wrapped that we just held back for this year.
