Because there is something known as injuries. What if he blows out his shoulder and is relegated to only DHing? I think he's foolish to wait. It's not like his free agency is just around the corner.

The most free agent years any of the arb guys would let go right now is maybe 1. Too much more money to be made when he hits FA as a 28 year old even if he’s just average.

The prediction that contracts would go up exponentially this off season came through. All the Apple TV streaming money and MLB’s sale of their media company have led to unprecedented cash influxes. I suspect a lot of teams are going to soon rework their local tv deals for an even bigger payday as live sports have become the most sought after product by advertisers moreso than ever.

Let’s see if the league approves this deal. This isn’t really a 13 year deal, it’s a 10 year deal structured to save the Giants on taxes. They did the same thing in the contract proposal with Judge.

As for Carlos… everyone likes to pile on him, but at the end of the day he ended up getting almost 400 million after leaving the Astros, is playing in a major city and with a full no trade clause…. Ultimately he did really well.

Because he is so incredibly talented he is viewed as a disappointment but he is barely 28 years old and already has 40 WAR. He is still very much on pace to be a Hall of Famer. I still think one of these days he can win an MVP award or more. He has missed so much time that it has stunted his growth, but the talent is still there.

Javier has never had a full seasons worth of starter innings (plus playoffs). Urquiddy has a history of shoulder issues. Lance is a huge question mark in terms of stuff with the torn flexor and durability.

Garcia and Brown actually have the most upside and likely highest durability factor besides Framber.

He will never play all 14 of those seasons and the Giants and him know it…. This was done for tax purposes…. Basically Correa got his 400 million.

    Probably both?

Crane doesn’t want to sign him for a decade and Tucker has already turned down extension offers from the Astros… he is set on free agency… and he will likely sign elsewhere.

How will Correa get his full contract if he doesn't play all 13 years?

With SFG leading the league in ground ball rate and the banning of the shift, Correa is gonna be on SportsCenter every other night.

The top of the market is just about cleared out. Only Rodón and Swanson left.

I wonder if the market craters after those 2. Teams went wild going after the top tier, and there may not be much left.

Bobby Bonilla still getting paid. Chris Davis getting paid for the next several years…

yep. This is why I wouldn’t mind adding another SP arm like Kluber. And why I hope Brandon Bielak has another gear, or maybe Whitley, Solomon or someone else can give us good innings. We will need to pace Javier and Brown to ensure they have plenty in the tank for playoffs

I'm thinking there will be at least 3-5 years at the end of this deal where he'll be completely unplayable. A 28 year old that already has a history of back problems is unlikely to have an ironman career

If he wants guarantees, his best play is to just negotiate out his 3 arbitration years for a flat fee - something like 3 years, $25-$30MM. Lock in his lifetime of wealth and leave himself the option of free agency. Almost certainly saves the Astros some money too.

The Astros just signed Yordan to a 6-yr, $120MM deal. It's unlikely they are giving Tucker substantially more than that.

I fully expect Correa’s body to break down about halfway through the contract. The Bogaerts deal and now this Correa deal are just crazy, imo.

Crazy? No, he would have enough money to pick up the tab when dinning with Mexican industrialists … but he wants cartel type of money.

Yeah but he's still gotta freeze his butt off playing ball in San Francisco.

Given a choice I would never want to live there. Rents too damn high and weather is too damn cold.

It’s warmer than Minnesota? And I guarantee you they’ll still be living in Houston for most of the year.

He'll probably accept if Astros offer him 13/330.

They will release him. He will show up for Spring training and he will be released.
They will pay him as long as he is a contributing player but they know it is very very unlikely he will be 41-42 years old and still on the Giants.

If you are extremely wealthy, it is very nice and politics don’t come up much. He can live on one of the tiny islands right off the bay like Robin Williams did… San Francisco caters to the ultra wealthy. I would feel uncomfortable but Correa wants the attention.
