Possible. Barnhart is a better glove and calls as good or better a game, but his bat is bad.

Honestly, I think Vasquez is durable and solid, but I don’t think he is all that special. There are other guys out there that are of similar quality.

I would have been fine with signing him, but this doesn’t hurt all that much to me.

At least you could limit Barnhart to favorable platoon matchups to get his bat to play up a bit. Probably not a better option available at this point.

He is polarizing defensively. I have heard some say he is good and others say he should DH.

FWIW I think he would be fine in a tandem with Maldonado.

Narveos or whatever his name is should be the guy and go ahead and hit him against RHP and Maldy against LHP. I mean, if we don’t require maldy to wipe his ass and tie his shoes for him I guess.

I think it's a fair plan if spending money elsewhere. It's about where the value is with what is left to choose from.

Let's sign Omar Narvaez and call it a day at catcher.

What's more likely, a signing like Barnhart, Jorge Alfalo, or Omar Narvaez or a trade for Jansen (from St Louis they apparently asked for Nootbaar so price might be high-ish), D'Arnaud or aim higher and go after the other Jays C in Kirk. Or asking price will be too high for their liking?

I was not that big a fan of Vazquez. Bat was nothing special and kind of acted pouty when the Astros traded for him. I would have been fine with them signing him but I’m not sad he signed elsewhere.

d'Arnaud sounds like the best possible fit. A reasonable contract this year + a team option for next year. This is a trade I could get behind. I would begin by offering Maton and Dubon.

Whoa I didn’t realize the Astros were a 70 win team all of the sudden thanks CF For the update. Smh can’t believe we let a 30 WAR player walk out the door

The obvious remaining answer is just to platoon a left handed hitting catcher with Maldy. Narváez or Barnhart.

As for centerfield, I’d just role with McCormick. If he’s still not hitting against righties by the deadline, then look at an upgrade.

Going this route preserves your $$$ and assets for Kris Bryant.

We wouldn’t need assets for Bryant. Just willingness to take on cash.

And he’s actually affordable. I mean it’s not a great contract, but we didn’t spend 43 on verlander. Or 20 on contreras. Conforto will be 18-20, brantley around 12 and vasquez just got 10. Spending 25 on Bryant who can fill every single non-C hole Seems nice

Maybe this is a vote of confidence in Lee? Wishful and hopeful thinking

Probably. There might be an interplay between cash/prospects. So if Denver sends $15 million they get zero prospects, $30 million they get some, $45 million they get a lot. Just depends.

The length bothers me more than the AAV.

    Swing and a miss.

FA catchers want nothing to do with HOU as long as Maldonado is here.

Barnhart was 1/2 the catcher that Maldonado was in 2022. And that is saying something (awful)!

Slipping? I would say slipped if you are thinking catcher. We had a quality bat and catcher and for some reason we just figured a catcher that can’t hit with a telephone poll was the man for full time. I like the Abreau signing. But, playing with our puds from that point on is disappointing. I am good with not spending to just spend but 3/30 doesn’t fall in that catagory if you get Vazquez and let him start 3/5 games.
This one makes me question what’s left of the front office.
