it's purely my opinion, but here's why I think all of those stations are reporting the hakeem to toronto story: I think dan fegan is the one who called the station to leak the news, and I think he did it solely to get the rockets to improve their offer. if houston improves their offer, I don't think he's leaking that news to the stations because I think hakeem truly wants to sign here. he just wants to sign as good a deal as he can. I'm not saying he won't sign with toronto. I think he's prepared to. I'm just saying that I don't think the news are going to report hakeem goes to houston rumors a) because that's not as big a story as him going to toronto, and b) because I don't think fegan is using the media to improve toronto's offer like he's using them to improve houston's offer. that's my opinion, anyway. ------------------ houston rockets = 2 utah jazz = 0
Sounds like for a basketball Hall of Famer and former soccer player, Hakeem is executing one heck of a squeeze play.
I'd rather have Taylor than Hakeem... ...and that's not simply because I'll probably lose my nick if Taylor leaves . I hope the Rockets already have assurances with Mo. ------------------ Clutchcity.net... source for all your Rockets, Astros, political, music, humor, and Gordita news.

Why is no team after Taylor? I look for the Lakers to make a run at him very soon. After losing Grant, they need a PF. ------------------ "For there is nothing either good or bad, thinking makes it so." - William Shakespeare (1564-1616), Hamlet

Bob, Everybody knows that Taylor loves Houston, and there's almost no doubt he'll be back. Why make offers for someone who won't leave? Also, the Lakers won't offer anyone any more than the 1.3 exception... they will not pay the luxury tax and are very close. ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. I hope this deal with our FAs get done soon. I'm afraid with all the money that Detroit is clearing out that they will make a run at Mo. ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air

I hate to sound extreme on the subject but I'll have to agree with Stone Cold Killer.Once again Hakeem manages to piss me off.I love Hakeem as much as the next guy and he has done alot but how much did Patrick Ewing take in Orlando?Maybe Hakeem is a better then him now but Dream is just as much injury prone, and old as Pat. Hakeem needs to give it up this is Steves team its time to move on.Yeah he looked good at the end of last season but lets not forget this wasn't consistant play for the whole season.I think Dream is disrespecting Rudys loyalty and this is sad.Its not The Dream anymore its The Green. ------------------ Fear the Spear
If the Rockets sign Dream to a $10M deal, they don't have enough to pay Taylor unless he'll take a 1 year deal for about $4.5M or a multi-year deal starting at $3M per season. Norris and Anderson have early bird rights, so they are not a cap issue. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see how we can resign Anderson unless Taylor takes the midlevel exception. Here's why: The Chronicle reported that not counting our free agents we already had $24M committed for next year. With a $42.5M cap that leaves a best case of $17.5M in cap space. Now you sign Olajuwon for $10M and your committed salaries are now $34M. While unsigned, Anderson is hitting the cap at $2.4M Our exceptions also count against the cap for $6.98M Norris is hitting the cap at $680K Assume we renounce Bullard and can resign him later for the vet minimum Now we'd have a cap amount of $44.06M Let's say we renounce the $1.3M and the traded player exception ($1.2M).Now our cap figure is $41.56M, which is ~$1M below the cap, which isn't enough to sign Taylor. At this point you have two options: 1) Sign Taylor to the Mid Level exception and then use Early Bird Rights for Anderson or 2) If you renounce Anderson and you renounce your Mid Level exception, then you would have $8M in cap space to spend on Taylor and/or Anderson (since we renounced Anderson, we wouldn't be able to use any type of BIrd Rights to sign him). If Taylor is to make more than $4.5M, then the amount left for Anderson is $8M - Taylor's salary. ------------------
If he goes to Toronto, and then if they play here, I wonder if the announcers in Compaq will still add "the Dream" when announcing him? It would be wierd to hear that omission... We would all notice it and feel something dark creep into our psyches. Anywayz, this 2 yrs / $20 mil rumor has got to be either fantasy BS or Fegan stirring the latrine. Either way, I don't like it. Toronto for 3 years @ $17 mil SOUNDS like BS (or planted info), but it doesn't make sense that the agent would plant a rumor about or agree to a sum that is LESS THAN that offered by the desired suitor. The Rox are in a position to offer more and have already stated so, so why come up with a lower # than that? Someone is lying. Or posting severely logic-deficient information. We've got the highest bid. No two ways about that. If Hakeem goes the other way, then he's got a SERIOUS ego problem, and should replace his agent with a psychiatrist. ------------------
Aelliott, The idea about renouncing Shandon and using the MCE on him is to never slip below $7m in capspace. That can be done. You are forgetting that we can sign Moochie to a raise before renouncing Shandon if need be. Plus, we can sign Griffin to 120% of his current cap hit. By my math and timing, we can most definitely sign Dream to $10m and Mo to $6m and Shandon to the MCE and Moochie to $1-2m. That works. It is just a matter of timing the Shandon renouncement, and getting Dream, Griffin and Moochie signed to whatever it takes to prevent falling below $7m. btw: Do you think that $24m number by Feagan is correct? Is he forgetting Malone or MacLean, et al? [This message has been edited by crispee (edited July 19, 2001).]
None of this matters. Hakeem is as good as gone. Read the Blinebury article. I agree with every word. Hakeem is headed to Canada, thanks to some crappy management from Houston. ------------------ Protrolls.com! Keep the ???? alive!
ZRB, then post that in the Blinebury thread. What is the purpose of saying our post don't matter in a thread saying Dream Close to Deal with Houston!!!! find the correct thread, please.
Because without Dream, none of this discussion matters. None of the salary cap problems will occur. The Rockets will be able to sign Mo and Shandon easily, while losing a sports icon. Continue on with it anyway, I'm just being negative. ------------------ Protrolls.com! Keep the ???? alive!
