    FYI compare Varsho.

As CF successful 94% vs expected 86%
As RF successful 90% vs expected 85%

    +18 outs above average.

    Arm 84.4 , max 87.7

    Reaction +1.2
    Burst +2.3
    Route +0.3

    +3.7 vs avg.

    Covers 37.4 ft.

He is absolutely elite at catching the ball but has a below average arm as well. One reason Arizona moved him off of catcher

All in all slightly better than Jake and Chas across the board with the same arm

Trade for Varsho, sign Brantley, Vasquez, and Cueto and let's roll.

Correa never drove in 100 rbi's when he was with the Astros so I don't understand this logic.

It's a stupid stat, but you say he would do it in this lineup easily when he had this and better lineups and never did it.

    Makes total sense.

Ok but the 2nd link a guy literally took 2nd base on him from 1st.. that’s ridiculous. Especially when you had time to line up the catch. Those are key 90 ft advances that could kill you in playoffs.

I admit, I was just using the eye test. But if those are the numbers, then why are ppl happy to have chas as a 4th OF (which I agree with btw) but then think Meyers should get a chance to start? It feels like they are the same person with a ceiling of 4th OF. And chas is marginally (for now) better at the plate.

I'd take Yuli too... can play several infield positions and as a pinch hitter is ideal because he puts the ball in play a lot...

As much as I love what Yuli has done for this team, the idea that he can play multiple IF positions at his age is fanciful. It would be nice, but there's no evidence to support it.

The original poster said *if he hit 3rd* in this line-up - and he's probably right.

Don't come in here with that crap.

You can have good discussions about the value of Maldonado with going to extremes and creating strawmen that nobody has actually said.

Go do that **** in the Garm and in here argue against actual things people say.

Nobody has ever said Maldy was the difference in Verlander having a below 2 era or it ballooning to 5 just stop with that BS.

Take that **** back to the Garm.

I can't answer your question and it's a good one.

Chas played mostly corner OF in minors and I have heard him say that he has always been more comfortable there and worked hard to get his CF play to that level. Maybe he has now.

From what I understand, Jake has always primarily been a CF.

He is also a year younger and faster runner.

Maybe Jake was ( is?) always just a touch higher on the potential totem pole.

Chas may have also answered some questions and caught him or passed him. I really like both of them. It's a shame neither of them hit left, especially since both throw left.

He has hit 3rd in better lineups and did not do it, which is my point.

If I am paying a guy 30 mill plus he should be able to do it on most teams.

Would you rather runners from 1st and 2nd advance a base on an out or have runners from 1st and 2nd score on a hit? I'd say the keeping the runs from scoring is more key in the postseason.

Part of it is based on precedent of other players. If he's playing 2 or 3 times per week his body is going to recover much better.

I suspect the days off in the playoffs may have played a role in his resurgence.

    Varsho, Brantley, Vazquez, and Yuli?

There are only 13 position player spots on the roster.

Maldy, Abreu, Altuve, Bregman, Pena, Alvarez and Tucker are guaranteed spots. Chas has in my eyes too.

    That may work

Shortstop may be an issue. I'm sure Yuli can't back up. Can Bregman? How do the Astros feel about Hensley's chops at short?

That could doom Hensley a demotion back to AAA and force the team to keep Dubon.

Not saying I do it, but if the Red Sox would swap Devers for Pena I'd consider it if Devers was willing to take a reasonable extension (5×160).

Slide Bregman to SS. Middle of the order hitter and lefty bat.

    Lose defense but it's turning a likely .250 / .320 bat into a .290 / .340 bat with power...

I suspect he wants his 10 year deal too.... so moot point.. thought it would be interesting thought...

Bench would be Hensley, Dubon, Yuli, Maldonado, and McCormick/Brantley.

    C: Vasquez / Maldonado / Varsho
    1B: Abreu / Yuli
    2B: Altuve / Dubon / Hensley / Yuli
SS: Pena / Hensley / Dubon / Yuli
    3B: Bregman / Yuli / Hensley

OF depth: McCormick/ Dubon play all 3 ok...
