WHERE'S KOBE GOING?? Clippers or Lakers??? I'm voting Clippers, because I think that would be absolutely hilarious!!
That brings up an interesting scenario. The Lakers essentially let go of Jackson and traded Shaq to appease Kobe. So say he screws them by signing with the Clippers. If I was a Laker fan, Id boo him mercifully. So, does the same fan base that attends Laker games, attend Clippers games??? If so, will he still be booed by the Staples center crowd??
even Kobe's big ego knows he will keep in the spotlight more with the Lakers -- and they will surrond him with a better supporting cast
Most of the fans in LA are bandwagon jumpers anyway. They won't boo Kobe, they'll just jump on the Clippers bandwagon.
ESPN just said that Kobe is going to announce his decision at 3 PM ET. Ya know, the Clippers just gave up a decent, young big man and a rotation guard for 2 2nd rounders. Theyll be pissed too if Kobe doesn't sign. Stephen A. Smith said last night, that if Kobe doesn't resign with Lakers, then they will be a bad team for a long long time.
I have no idea what I would want to happen anymore... I almost would hate to see Rudy struggling through a season with no stars... he deserves better than that! Something about a complete Laker meltdown and Kobe in a Clippers uni seems cool to me though....
Considering how he treats people around him, probably to a very warm and hot place, with lots of marshmellows
I think it's at least debateable which of the two has the better roster (outside of Kobe), so the choice shouldn't come down to that. If he really wants to create a legacy, it makes more sense for him to go to the Clippers- he can be the one to succeed where many others have failed. If he stays with the Lakers, he'll be succeeding where many others have already succeeded. Following in the footsteps of West, Magic, et al. versus blazing his own trail.. etc. Personally, I think he'll stay with the Lakers, but will find it a lot harder to win without Shaq than he thought.
Looking at their rosters the Clippers have so much more talent, all they need is a leader, Bryant could be that leader. They got Elton Brand, a guy who doesn't need the ball much to produce, he'll finally have a winning season if Bryant goes there. Corey Maggette a tough player who could guard the other team's best players during quarters 1-3 and pass them over to Bryant in the clutch. Chris Kaman one of the few 7 footers in this league, not much else you could say about him I guess, Marko Jaric who I think is very underrated, Chris Wilcox is solid. And then for the future they got Shaun Livingston who is said to be more advanced as a PG than Jason Kidd was at the same age. That's where he's going... unless he goes to the Lakers...
exactly, plus there's the benefit of being the guy who "turned around the Clippers".. Even though that team is actually better at this point. A better chance for success, and yet more accolades awaiting for that success. how could he not choose the Clippers? It's kind of funny how so many people are saying Boozer did the right thing in taking the extra $28 million to go to Utah, while it seems like nobody is talking about money as an issue with Kobe - aren't the differences in the Lakers' and Clippers' offers about the same ($~30 million)?
Ah, but that's because the Lakers deal is for one extra year. The difference in the contract is that the Lakers can offer a 7 year contract, with starting salary at 105% of Kobe's current salary, and escalate at 12.5% per year. The Clippers can offer the same starting point but only 10% increase per year. And it can only be for a max of 6 years. Honestly, I don't think the difference would be anywhere near the significance as Boozer's contract. Kobe has a ton of money, lots of endorsement, and the difference between two deals is fairly small. Boozer was a 2nd round pick who might never get a huge contract after this one.
If I'm Kobe. I go to the Clippers. If this is really about legacy, he can make one there, and on the surface it seems the appealing choice.
