LOL, Gallo is the exact type of player that will disappear in the playoffs, strike out 60% of the time but management is insistent that he can do better and won't take him off the roster. This leads to the Astros not winning a key series and a kid (who would've been at the World Series) camping instead- setting a campfire and starting a blaze that spreads for miles. Why would anyone want to kill innocent forest animals over Gallo?
Ken Rosenthal is the one who reported the information I was basing my comment on. He said "The plan is for him to be used as a “utility player,” meaning playing multiple positions like catcher, designated hitter, an left field. In addition, Dusty Baker said "“If we do sign somebody, we have to be prepared to let one of our young catchers go because it’s going to stunt his growth,” Baker said. “If we don’t sign them, you have to figure out which young catcher that you’re going to groom to possibly take Maldy’s spot. It is a pretty good situation when you have an older catcher and then a younger couple (of) catchers that’s been groomed to take his job.” Doesn't sound like he expected Maldonado to be going anywhere. Finally, Jon Heyman reported that the front office is supposedly split between Contreras and Maldanado. So Maybe Rome is correct, maybe he isn't. I have never been a big fan, so maybe I am a little biased to not really accept what he reports
Brown and Garcia could. smith and Stanek could have combined for 3 and that wouldn’t have been an Impediment for us going forward. It’s just not all that important a deal.
That’s fair. Better than doing nothing for me. If he sucks for 3 months you could always go back to Meyers/JJ/ whoever.
If he strikes out 70% of the time draws 3 walks and hits a HR in a series at the 8 spot it’s probably a win compared to most teams 8 hitters. Probably. I’d love a better option. I don’t see a lot left anymore that are for sure better than that. I’m ok with watching the world burn.
Sources tell me we just got Bagwell for Anderson. I'm stoked, but I'm unsure he can move to first base effectively. We'll see
I like it because it’s not a half measure like Benintendi, and if structured correctly, does not impede your ability to make future moves or cost you high end prospects.
And his ability to play multiple positions gives you future flexibility in case we don't resign Bregman. It's almost perfect. Paying him 20 million or so a year will be a big discount over the next few years compared to what these players at his level are getting paid now. If Brantley comes back and gets healthy you would have a potential playoff batting lineup of: 2b Altuve Ss Pena Lf Alvarez 3b Bregman Rf Tucker 1b Abreu Cf Bryant Dh Brantley C Maldanado That's criminal.
IF he can play center, it completely changes everything. like you said, as he ages and guys leave, you can spin him down to 3rd or 1st.
@Nook has mentioned him. Said the Rockies are trying to unload him and his salary. Also said Rockies would have to include cash/prospects.
