Garcia is only a possible #5 starter on this team. On any other team, he’s in the top half of the rotation. He has a ton of upside still, and has the body type to really grow into being a workhorse power pitcher.
It seems clutchfans is disagreeing even more than usual when it comes to what we should do this offseason LOL.
HAHA, I was expecting someone to say how Murphy is the next MVP candidate and Garcia is nowhere near enough.... but then you went the other way
The only club-controlled pitcher the Astros would consider trading is Urquidy as he probably doesn’t have another gear, and is the ‘oldest’. That being said, its been well discussed that there’s only so much a team would be willing to give up for a guy like him, and its far more valuable to just keep him around for the innings. His 3 mop-up innings he pitched in game 3 of the WS (saving the bullpen) was vital to the rest of how that series went.
I think Abreu was the missing piece we needed and our hole will be filled by Brantley coming back. Also bringing Yuli back will keep this team going and allow them to have money available for a SP if needed by the trade deadline. Other than that I'd welcome Vasquez 100% if he wants to split time at C. Brantley/Alvarez in LF Alvarez/Abreu at DH Abreu/Yuli at 1B Maldy/Vazquez at C I can't see any reason why having a healthy Brantley batting 7th is a detriment. 3. Alvarez dh/lf 4. Bregman 3b 5. Tucker rf 6. Abreu 1b/dh 7. Brantley lf /Yuli 1b
There was only one player Crane would have been willing to “overspend” on this off-season and that’s JV. Everybody else was going to have to be within the Astros’ assessment of how much they’re worth. While it would be nice to spend all the aggregate $40 million they were willing to go for JV, they’ve always held true to the mantra that they’re not going to spend money just to spend money.
108 Plate appearances vs 117 Plate appearances is 48% and Maldonado had 5 home runs and 2 doubles vs Vazquez 1 home run and 3 doubles. Dusty made the right call he played CV plenty gave him nearly equal at bats. It's simple. My mind is not boggled. No need to attack me personally, you can just agree to disagree or look at my side of the discussion. The real truth is you don't know what Dusty will do if he gets a mid season trade like you think you do. You keep implying he won't play them but he obviously did with Vasquez and he probably played him the correct amount because we won. I'd bet you a hundred bucks to the tip jar baring injury if we get Murphy at the deadline he'd out play Maldonado but you say 'Go ask Vazquez'.
I figured this class was going to get very pricey on the high-end players. I was team all in with JV and a 1st baseman. I'm very pleased with Abreu, even more so with these latest numbers. But to be arguing about the 9th hitter or maybe the 7th at best on a part time basis is a really good problem to have. Other teams are looking for all kinds of holes to fill with these leftovers.
Using the Arenado trade as a template for Kris Bryant: Bryant $38 million for Whitley Lee 2 lower level prospects Bryant signed at $20 million net per year for 6 years through his age 36 season. Tell me that isn’t a good deal based on what we’ve seen recently.
I disagree. Lee is a long term play. If you're trying to win a championship he's not good enough yet to rely on. If he could cut down his strikeouts a little to roughly Pena level and his 20-30 points higher I think he could earn some time. Also depends on how hard he's worked on his framing. He already has one of the 3 fastest releases to second in the majors. He hits for power. He's overall a pretty good athlete. He's just needing some more refinement. That can happen on the bench behind Maldy or in AAA one more year which isn't outrageous at his age.
They play Kirk at DH half the time. Moreno and Jansen will handle the catching spot. Jansen is incredibly inconsistent offensively. He may be had but i doubt they want to rely on a rookie...
If we get Murphy, Maldanado should be moved off the roster altogether. Vazquez is a poor pinch hitter. I went back and checked. Maldonado didnt have a single game with more than 4 AB in the time Vazquez was on the roster. Vazquez played 11 games with 5-6 AB. The logic that Vazquez and Maldonado were split evenly is flawed.
https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs...tion-moving-forward-it-would-be-center-field/ “Question: “If you knew for the next 5-10 years, you would only play one position … what position would that be?” Bryant: “Center field.” With almost no hesitation *at all* Bryant said center field would be the position he’d most like to play if he could play only one position for the rest of his career. And he followed that up with a believable “I love center, there’s something about being out there, man.” Nothing to see here…just a top level hitter and former MVP that wants to leave his current team saying he wants to play center field. TRADE FOR KRIS BRYANT
Is Brantley coming back? I’ve seen no less than 10 posts causally acting like that’s a formality, and I’ve seen no real indication that it’s the case. This place is become more useless than Reddit.
no idea. He was pretty outspoken about the sign stealing stuff (a lot of guys were), and he has a full no trade, so who knows how practical this really is.
