Also interesting that messi celebrated like riquelme

Everyone blames van gaal for riquelme not making it at barcelona. there has always been those that say that van gaal has a real dislike of latin players

Messi has a pretty good chance of making it into finals. Idk if he can beat France though.

Longer story, when LVG was with United DiMaria played for him and disliked him.

Also said Ronaldo7 was a much better team player....

Van Gaal is a schmuck who shouldn't talk so much in the days leading up to the game. Messi is right. They didn't come with some great strategy.

But that game was a s***show and there should've been some reds. When Paredes smashed the ball into the Dutch bench after a dirty slide tackle, he should've been given 2 yellows and ejected. There's just no way a game has that many yellow cards and no reds (though apparently Dumfries got one after the game). The Argentina pk was soft and Messi should've received a card for his hand ball. Emi Martinez should be given a red because he's a d***head. I just think he should be red carded at the start of any game he's participating in.

Croatia v Argentina is going to probably be similar to this game. I think it's going to be ugly and probably go to spot kicks as well.

I feel like the winner of England v France tomorrow is the odds on favorite.

I think Portugal's head coach is heavily overlooked.

Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva are two of the best midfielders.

We should talk after the Morocco game.

What an evening of football matches, I'm still in disbelief as to how we managed to beat Brazil. Most impressive win in our history! I got hammered out with friends and now on the train back home with a massive headache...

We are a country of 4 million people that has been independent only for the past 30 years of our modern history, and we have gone to WC semifinals 3 times already. Unbelievable, I'm at a loss for words.

I'm at a total loss. I've been reading Grant for decades. He was the written voice of soccer in the US for so long.

May he rest in peace. Soccer in the United States lost an absolute giant today.

    It's a little surreal.
And his college basketball work was almost as immense as his work in soccer journalism in the USA. An absolute giant like you said but as so many other writers, media personalities and even players are tweeting, just a nice person.
    So sad.

The wild thing is Argentina were whining and complaining about the referee after the game. When he rightly could have sent off Paredes and Messi(and should have sent off Emi at the start anyway just like you wrote).

Grant Wahl man. They shouldn’t play another second of soccer until they get to the bottom of this. Won’t happen but damn. Biggest sports story of the decade. RIP. Can’t believe it
