Did Tracy McGrady sign an extention?

The Rockets would be in big trouble if Tracy doesn't sign an extention soon. They don't want to go through the season wondering if he'll sign. Or perhaps he already did and I don't know it.

An extension cannot be signed until Aug. 24th or somewhere around there.

August 4th was what one of the articles mentioned. after his talk about how great the fan response at the press conference was and him saying he wants to finish his career here, i'm not worried about him signing it. i know boozer has everyone paranoid, but no one can outbid us so that doesn't apply.

After seeing Boozer become the NBA's public enemy number one, I highly doubt that TM will want to take that path.

Due to league rules, McGrady will not be able to sign an extension until August 4. I can GUARANTEE that there was no way the Rockets made a deal with McGrady without some knowledge that he would sign and extension - not a chance in hell. Not to worry. I bet those will be the quickest negotiations in history:

Les (at 12:01am on August 4): Ok, Tracy and Arm (his agent), here's the deal. We're going to give you the max deal of 7 years and every penny the league will allow. Cool?

    T-Mac: Cool.

    Done deal.

Pretty much. The CBA makes it so much easier to negotiate a contract for a top 5 player like T-Mac. :D :D :D

why is this so? we don't have his Bird's rights so i don't think we can offer him the most (unless his time with orlando carries over to us and counts towards the 3 year minimum).

Actually, we do own his Bird rights. Those transfer with the player and the contract. The 3-year minimum is not team-related. It is contract-related. For a player to get full Bird rights, he must have completed a three-year contract (or more) and re-sign with the team who owned that contract when it expired.
