The trailer is out for “Confess, Fletch” – a film adaptation of one of the novels from George Mcdonald’s series about irreverent investigative reporter Irwin ‘Fletch’ Fletcher.

Chevy Chase famously played the character in the 1980s, and now former “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm steps into the role as Fletch finds himself as a suspect in a murder case.

At the same time, his own investigation into a stolen art collection puts his heiress girlfriend on the suspect list.

John Slattery, Kyle MacLachlan, Marcia Gay Harden, Roy Wood Jr. and Annie Mumolo co-star while Greg Mottola (“Superbad”) directs from a script co-written with Zev Borow.

The film will score a limited theatrical release with a day-and-date VOD release on September 16th, and will then premiere on Showtime from October 28th.

"6'5", 6'9" with the afro" was one of my favorite movie lines of all time when I was a child.

Hard to imagine me liking a Fletch movie without Chevy Chase, even though he is apparently one of the all-time great A-holes in the flesh. I like Jon Hamm, but Chevy is Fletch in my mind.

Literally brought up the Underhill tab to a younger couple yesterday at a happy hour. They had no clue what I was talking about.

Fatty, that movie is 40 years old, a lot of people wouldn’t be familiar with it.

You'd be surprised. My kid knows a ton of 80s movies.

I'll give Hamm a shot at this...but Chevy defined that character (in my mind) and I'm not sure anyone else can pull off what he did. I enjoy both movies equally.

I don't see Hamm pulling this off. I am skeptical.

Previews did not look good or funny. Tough act to follow (well Fletch Lives was garbage)

I hear you, but we just have to let this be a different thing.
He's got a good cast around him, and if the script is okay, it could work.

I agree. You have to be an ******* to be Fletch. That's what made Chevy the perfect man for the role at the time.

And, btw, putting everything on the Underhill tab will still get chuckles. (At least to those over 40, I guess?)

what made fletch great was chevy chase...his mannerisms, timing and attitude. i dont see how anyone else can play the role. i remember hearing years ago that ben afleck was going to play him...i guess hamm is an upgrade, but i still dont see it.

fletch might be my most quoted movie of all-time. in fact, just this week i used the "its all ball bearings nowadays" line.

and last week my friend, who is a locksmith, said he was going to change the locks for someone named clark poon...i told him it might be chevy chase using an alias, as he was clark griswold in vacation and stacy poon (comanche indian) in fletch...alas, it really was a guy named clark poon.

not as good as the original, but fletch lives was a worthy sequel that definitely had its moments.

I watched the clip and I just was wanting to hear Chevy's voice the whole time Hamm spoke. I don't know that I could ever get past this and give Hamm a chance in the role. Chevy's stamp is just all over this. My mind won't allow me to accept any other version of it. I'll try, though. It's too bad, too, because Chevy Chase turned out to be such a huge douche of a human being in real life. Talking about a guy who squandered and tarnished his legacy.

So they replaced an old guy with a slightly less old guy?

Why not find a comedic genius similar to Chase to 'reboot' the franchise?

    I don't get this casting.

It's your kid. Of course he knows 80's movies.

I have no clue how to relate to the Zoomer Zeitgeist. What is popular? What do they like? Memes, TikTok trends, not showering or grooming themselves? Pronouns, docking, SoundCloud rappers? I wish I had a resource so I could make jokes with them.

    Finally watched this last night.

Fun movie. Hamm did a great job and played the role fairly similar to Chevy. Just toned down slightly.

    Definitely worth the watch.

    Agreed!

I was skeptical, but this was an excellent movie. It felt like a Fletch movie and Hamm did a fantastic job with the role!

The funniest parts aren't in the trailer (which is a good thing)

Thats good to hear I will have to check it out.

I love Hamm I think what he did on Mad Men is some of the greatest work I have seen on TV or movies, he killed it.

Its funny the that he went the comedy route after that, he needs to be a more of thing again.
