Yep. Didn’t understand all the hate we got for that contract. It was about as good as you could have expected. Ohtani’s contract in a year is going to be insane. Probably the first $500+ million plus deal.
He is a very bright guy and very very nice person. Having said that, it feels like the game is passing him bye, which is weird because he used to be very progressive in his baseball opinions. Now he seems to be set in the analytics and measures popular 15 years ago. He still loves baseball but I think he would rather discuss his other hobbies at this point.
Did Keith Law not write 1000 words lamenting the value of JV's 2 year deal? I guess he just had it dialed up in case Crane was the one to offer it...
I try to give people the benefit of the doubt.... but he just put out something saying that Lance McCullers Jr and Hunter Brown might combine as a number 5 pitcher for the Astros next season. That's either him being a moron, or it's horribly bad faith.... either way it's garbage he shouldn't be getting paid to write, it has literally no value.
He should discuss those hobbies... rather than getting paid to write about baseball with obvious agendas/bias/axes.
Looking forward to seeing those fans (or the Yankees') mental gymnastics to justify it... but of course he'll likely sign with the Giants should they lose out on Judge (and then the Dodgers fans will have a million more reasons to hate him).
JV doesn't need the money. I think if Houston wins another WS or two and he doesn't, he'll look back later in life and think he made the wrong choice. He has a chance to add multiple championships to his resume and play on a dynasty. He'll still got to the Hall but he could have been a lock as an Astro. Who the hell wants to be a Detriot Tiger?
So if Turner gets that then Correa has to be looking at getting a deal similar in length. So 10 years $375 million?
