Yep I'm totally lost on this Braves decision. Makes no sense at all. You can't tell me Murphy is much of an upgrade over the current catcher with 2 more years of team control. And then there is the Contreras kid who seems destined for greatness. The 2 years D'Arnaud has left is the perfect transition for Contreras. So you'll give up some key prospects to not really improve your catcher situation? Go for it.
I gave you 162 game averages. Pay attention. His level of production is Michael Brantley. That's his comp.
Andrew Benintendi's Highest Single Season wRC+ 123 (Career 109) Michael Conforto's Career wRC+ 124 Unless the Astros don't like Conforto's medicals I don't see how you can justify the higher cost and years of Benintendi. Conforto will probably be seeking a 1 year contract with a player option.
I dont know if we would have anything to trade for him, but whatvabout Pablo Lopez? What would we even have to offer for him? He isn't a bad SP and I understand We have a plethora already was Just curious if anyone would be interested in him?
I really don't like player options and player opt outs. At least get it paired with a team option. This is not a mutual option which both sides have to opt into. They are separate agreements binding the team with a player option protecting the player from a single bad season and a team option at a higher level protecting the team from losing a player it has given protection to. Say the player takes a $20M contract with a 1 year $20M player option for a second year. The team should get a Team option for say $30M which binds the player at that price for an additional year.
Rumors that JV is close to signing with the Mets. 2 years with a 3rd year option at $43.5M/year. If that's the deal, good luck and thanks for the memories, buddy bear.
While he will be missed, this is best for our team, considering the dollars involved and his age. I'm not sure he's going to have what it takes to win playoff games from this point forward. I have no doubt that he'll be a very solid regular season pitcher. But he's getting paid at a rate where anything less than top 3 in Cy Young voting each year is probably not getting good value back for the contract.
