A recent survey of American men found that 76 percent actually believed that if they had just worked harder or if things had just gone the right way for them, they could have been professional athletes. Now, we're not talking pro bowlers or billiard players. We're talking basketball, baseball, hockey, football, tennis, golf, etc.

In light of all the trades, free agency, etc. with the Rockets, here's a question for you.

How many of you actually believe you know better than the average GM or coach from a professional basketball team?

    Should be interesting.

I trust our GMs because of all the figures that go into completing a trade or going through FA. I couldn't do that. But sometimes, it's mind-boggling what CD and Les do.

No. But, if given the knowledge and experience. yes. I'm smarter than CD and more schrewd in negotiations. I just lack knowledge (and am somewhat arrogant and overconfident in my own abilities, but that's an occupational hazard.)

Los of posters, including my self, smelled a rat when Paxson didn't pick up Boozer's option and with Jazz having $30 million cap space lying around... On the Boozer deal, your average John Doe wouldn't have made the dumb mistake Paxson made.

I'd love to say yes, but I know the answer is no. I love watching Basketball but I never even played it. I learn new stuff every day on this board. There's no way my knowledge would stack up to guys like Carrol Dawson or JVG.

I'm good with facts and trivia though. :D

I completely disagree with that. If that deal was verballed, as rumored, how many NBA deals have you heard fall apart because someone backed out of a verballed deal?

I don't think I'd want to be part of any team that would want me as their GM/coach.

That much power isn't for me. I would love to be a scout though...if in college, a recruiter.

After 5 years of Fantasy BBall. GM is what the average person sports nut would be good at .

All I know is that 85% of the posters at CF.com would have done better than Rudy T and CD when we signed Cato, Mo Taylor, and Moochie.

Coaching is way too difficult but I know I could do a better job of subing players than Rudy T. He sucked and working the rotation or seeing mismatches. I loved it when he would put Moochie on Jason Kidd at the end of games with the dreaded three guard lineup.

JVG is the really good at managing a game. I don't think I could do any better than him.

I could probably Manage a baseball game better than Jimy Williams and definately better than Deirker.

Or when Jerry Hudsiker signe R Hidalgo to 32mil and Jeff Bagwell to 85 mil. Or when trading Wagner for no reason.

Is this really the right question or is this the fallacy of false dilema?

    no.
however, there have been many decisions that eventually failed that i thought i would have approached differently. i'm sure there's been many decisions i would have made that would have turned out poorly though, also...;)

It depends on whose story do you choose to believe. According to Boozer, all he said was he'd like to stay with the Cavs, there wasn't any hand-shake deals between them at all.

With little to no experience, IMO, none of us are better.

With years of experience, I believe a few people here can be better than some of the GM/Coaches out there. I know for a fact I am not one of them.
