To an extent I can understand Republicans caving after Trump won in 2016. After he lost in 2020 and especailly after Jan. 6 was the time to dump him. Yes it would've been ugly and painful and very likely would've cost them this past election but holding onto Trump has cost them already.

Liz Cheny is absolutely right that at some point Trump will be gone the longer they prolong the breakup the more damage will be done to the party. As is right now Trump has the inside track to win the nomination again in 2024. If he does win it likely other Trumpist candidates win primaries for Senate and governorships again. That means 2024 will look a lot like 2022 with a great opportunity for Republicans squandered because they're running Kari Lakes, Mark Mastriano and Tudor Dixon type candidates again. If not those very candidates.

I guess the hot air balloon industry doesn't pay you as much money as the NRA Ted.

This is what the GOP has become. Election deniers, propaganda spreaders, outright liars, and people willing to do anything to get in power.

From yesterday, an interesting discussion about Kevin McCarthy and his effort to become Speaker of the House, led by Ari Melber, from MSNBC's The Beat:

Trump's 'Toxic' Wing Causes Chaos In House

Here's a quote from Melber in the video above (for those who won't simply watch it) about McCarthy, referencing when he dropped out of the Speaker's race in 2015 (this is after showing a moment on Colbert, when Colbert's saying, of McCarthy dropping out, "Don't leave!"), and then pointing out just what kind of guy he is. He also points out a bit of good wisdom about politics:

"McCarthy seemed or projected a kind of calm about him, and that's the thing when we follow politics. One of the great mistakes is that people confuse tactics with ethics. They think that the people they don't like must also be always incompetent. Would that were the case, that someone you oppose in politics for good reasons were always as incompetent as their ideas were poor.

But that's not the real world. Kevin McCarthy, for all of his many demonstrable flaws and flip-flops, and I say that as objective matter. This is someone who stood on the floor of the House and said that Donald trump must be held responsible for January 6th and then went out to Mar-a-Lago and ate up his own words."

we need 5 or 6 non-crazy GOPers in the House, who are sick and tired of the crazies like MTG, Gozar and the likes, to strike a deal w the House Dems in to

    • to pick any non-crazy GOP, who willl not be a member of Congress to be the speaker, as the speaker
      • the speaker of the House doesn't have to be a member of Congress
    these 5 or 6 GOPers and all the Dems would make a majority;
they may be receptive to such sane GOPers as Liz Cheney, Kinsinger, and the likes. the speaker will put forth a Republican agenda, but with no nonsense

Members of the GOP similar to the now departed Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger? Do you seriously think that there are 5 or 6 current members on the Republican side of the House bench who resemble that pair? Really?

Five or six willing to speak truth to power within their own political party? I have my doubts. If there are, I doubt that they would be willing to pick one of their own as Speaker to, while remaining Republicans, join the Democratic Party as a House majority. To my knowledge, that has never happened before in the entire history of the United States House of Representatives. In Israel, using their parliamentary system? Sure.

If you can't win fair and square, then call the game rigged.

Face of republican party: Trump, DeSantis, MTG, Walker, Boebert....now Musk.
    Excellent work.

Why the **** does he care what Apple is doing with their app store?

You don't need to go to the apple app store to get twitter anyway, what about android phones.

Man, he is really reaching now to create some kind of outrage.

He's the King of butting in everyone's business. Mr. Cancel Culture himself. He might not be a con and dumbass like Trump, but he's a right wing bigot who loves telling people what they should or shouldn't say if or do if they don't want him taking legal recourse to hurt them or stop them.

Sincere question to the Republicans is what's their plan to win in 2024? The democracy argument worked for biden and we had 4 dollar gas and 8% Inflation. In 2024 well be back to 2-3% CPI and back to below average gas prices. How in the hell do they plan on winning with trump at the top of the ticket in 2024?

Anyone who thinks trump isn't going win the primary is a moron. It's same reason bernie couldn't ever win a national primary. Once you get to the heart of the heart (montana,Nebraska,Alabama, etc) they WANT trump and a fighter. They don't care about electability. They want someone who can own the libs.

We're on track for record low unemployment in 2024 and a booming economy and trump will be the head of the ticket. Yikes. 2024 will be the tsunami democrats thought 2020 would've been. House dems have 10 seats that Republicans currently hold that were +10 biden districts in 2020. They'll lose the house easily.

People hated on the democrats for spending money on MAGA candidates and elevate them but they were 1000% right. America doesn't want MAGA.
