*sad jayhawk noises* Still, a winning season is better than last year. A lot of close losses. Some losses aided by bad officiating. Ewers needs to be smarter. He made too many dumb decisions at times. Experience will teach him. He's got the talent. Bijan will be gone. It'll be hard to replace his production. Maybe Roschon will apply for his 5th year? Defense will be improved. Same with O-line. Receivers is TBD.
8-4 should've been the logical expectation to start the season IMO. Unfortunately Ewers struggling down the stretch and Sark seemingly not learning from his mistakes throughout the season does put a big question mark on next year's ceiling though.
Ewers struggled a little but he's only 19 years old. He also played behind a mostly freshman offensive line that didn't give him a lot of time. The team will be a lot better next year with a older offensive line, more threats to pass to. Only place we won't get better is running back because Bijan was held back by pretty bad offensive lines the 3 seasons he's been here. Our defense has been the glimmer of hope this season. They are a lot better than any defense we've had since Herman's first season. Just much more discipline overall despite the lack of star power.
I should have put "Ewers struggling a bit more than expected." A lot of that falls onto Sark IMO. Losing Bijan/Robinson will hurt but I think Brooks/Blue and incoming freshman Baxter behind a more experienced OL can get the job done. We'll see what happens with Worthy but there does seem to be some smoke around him portaling. He'd be a big loss but hope we might see the ball spread out more like you said if it happens. Completely agree on the defense. We lose a few key pieces but think we can fill in with the portal and last year's class.
So what's the deal with Worthy? Not a lot of confidence in the QB play for his last 1-2 years in college? If he transfers to a top 10 team with a solid arm at QB then it's hard to blame him. His focus should be on putting himself in the best position to be drafted and he's probably lost at least a couple TDs this year from bad throws.
Well he also dropped a pair of wide open TDs against ULM/Bama to start the season and gave up on at least half dozen passes that weren’t horribly thrown. But the “rumor” is USC which makes a lot of sense for him. It will suck to lose such a big playmaker but he also seemed like a kid that checked out of games.
Problem with Ewers is that he actually regressed as the season went on. The last two wins, we did our best when we just took the ball completely out of his hands and ran on literally every play, using two phenomenal running backs that won't be here next year.
You can't lose Worthy.. He's unguardable.. If Ewers was accurate on his deep throws, he would've gotten just as much attention as Tenn WR Hyatt..
Worthy dropped some great passes in critical games though He and Ewers are roommates so maybe there’s something else going on
