Oh well, I went on a sunday to Astro World a few weeks back. They closed early though. At like 6, so I only got about 3 hours of ride time. and the lines were long. Looking forward to Disney America in Houston, Tx.
Do have any information about this? I heard something about this 5 years ago and that it would be built in KATY.
i heard something about this about 20 years ago! this rumor never dies. it's been around forever. katy..sealy...bellville...all rumors are out west. but as i say, i've literally been hearing that since i was about 10. and i'm 31.
Went to 6 Flags during Rita and rode everything at least twice. No lines, with all the evacuees on the weekend. I can understand why these parks are losing money.
Does anyone know if they are going to auction some of the stuff? I'd kill for a car from The Cyclone or a "must be this tall to ride" sign.
i highly doubt the evacuees are the reason for their financial woes. they've been losing money way before this summer.
Actually, what he's referring to is a project called "Indigo Earth." The signs were up along the feeder road for over a year about the project. It was to be an indoor waterpark, retail center and IMAX with a huge Aquarium. However, in the last two months the sign came down and I was told they were unable to get the financing together for it. So, it seems to be a dead deal. The speculation currently about the long time Disney rumors is that in fact Disney did purchase land in the region, but through their real estate investment arm and not their theme park side.
Yeah, but that's when there was direct competition from Astroworld in the Houston area. Now that Houston doesn't have an amusement park, look for the Disney rumors to heat up again. It actually makes perfect sense. They already have parks on the East Coast and the West Coast, and Houston is a natural fit for Disney to have a presence in the Central United States...
i don't think Disney considered AstroWorld as competition. Disney parks are tourist meccas. They bring people in from all over the world. AstroWorld brought people all the way in from Conroe. don't get me wrong..there is no one who would be happier about a Disney park in Houston than me. seriously..no one.
do you have confirmation of this?? i've heard that "Disney bought land" story for about 10 years. i've heard the "Disney has their people filling up motels in Bellville" about 10 years, too.
No, no official confirmation. That's why I called it the latest speculation. Although, I've heard it from several people out here in the Katy area and it fits in with the fact that the rumors persist despite no park ever going up. My guess is someone who had a friend who knew a guy whose mother dated a real estate agent once got his eyes set on some paperwork showing a real estate deal with the word "Disney" in it and the rumor jumpstarted from there. It makes sense. But Disney does in fact have several real estate investment firms under their umbrella that don't necessarily have to do with building theme parks.
Oops. Hit "submit reply" too fast. Heh. Anyway, I was gonna say - the alternative is that it never had a basis in truth and was made up out of thin air. That's possible, but most rumors have at least some basis in fact even though the may be twisted beyond recognition by people who just really want something to happen...like Disney building a park in Texas.
Houston really got ****ed by this closing. The fact that I have to drive over 200 miles to take my kids to an amusement park is bullshit. Houston is the biggest city in Texas and we don’t even rank a theme park.
ive heard great things about astroworld from dad. why did it close? couldn't the tillmen open it up again?
