Various others whether thrash, black metal, NWOBHM, death metal, etc.

Call me crazy, but the new songs Hardy has put out from his country/rock mix album due out in January are great.

This song is a little NSFW. Dude is a great songwriter. Reigning songwriter of the year in country music, I believe. His rock chops may be even better. Reminds me a little of Josey Scott from Saliva. Rock part is the second half.

Sold Out is probably a better song though:

I stayed in my Comfort Zone so I just had to think for a few moments for the names of the bands rather than have to do research.

In your Progressive Rock category, I know nothing about the last three.

I don't have as strong an urge as you do to go an explore music.

A while back, I mentioned momentarily flipping the name of a band (Shiner) for the name of a song.

There really is a song by that name and I was puzzled why you would listen to it.

Hawkwind are a British band that has straddled the line of prog rock with hard rock and even heavy metal. They have an enormous discography and maybe the preeminent space rock band. Gong started out as an off-shoot of Soft Machine and went from Canterbury to prog rock with space rock. Their main guy Daevid Allen was batschit crazy and left and they moved to jazz fusion. He later came back and they did more prog rock goodness. Finally, Porcupine Tree is the brainchild of Steven Wilson and they started out as almost a Pink Floyd tribute band. Starting with their 4th album or so, they really created their own niche and became more of a prog metal band. All 3 of them are worth exploring.

Shiner was a post hardcore punk band that only released a handful of albums but they were a solid group.

I think that there are only a few people here that listen to or have listened to that type of music that our Parents, Grandparents and earlier ancestors loved so much.

    • B-Bob
    • Buck Turgidson
    • You
    • Me

There may be a few others that won't admit to it.

I used to hear it a lot when my parents were still alive. I will sometimes get sentimental about the past and will go listen to it because ...........well because.

If you want, I can post some links from youtube for that style/type of music one night when I am doing the Graveyard Shift on Clutchfans. Manny will be sleeping and I won't be breaking his flow like I would if I do it during the day & evening.
