Washington Wizards restricted free-agent forward Etan Thomas agreed Monday to sign an offer sheet with the Milwaukee Bucks, a league source told ESPN Insider Chad Ford.

The six-year deal likely will be between $37 and $39 million -- roughly the full mid-level exception.

Bucks GM Larry Harris would not confirm that Thomas had agreed to sign, but he did confirm that the Bucks were working on a deal with Thomas.

"We're engaged in negotiations with Thomas," Harris told Ford on Monday. "It's our intention to present him with an offer sheet on the 14th."

After the free-agent signing period begins Wednesday, the Wizards would have 15 days date to match any offer.

Wizards GM Ernie Grunfeld told Ford on Friday that while he hadn't heard of an offer to Thomas, Washington likely would match any offer.

"We really want to keep Etan," Grunfeld said. "We have the right to match an offer for him, and we want to keep him."

Thomas averaged 8.9 points and 6.7 rebounds last season but is considered an undersized center at 6-foot-9.

Ernie says he'll match. If he didn't and ET (not Sammy) signed with Rox, where would he play? He's much more 4 than 5 and there's 20 mil already there.

The $$$ being doled out for bigs this offseason is unreal, especially for marginal barely backups. Sooner or later these ridiculous contracts bite you in the ass. As much as I'd like to see us make a move for a backup center, these mindless contracts make no sense. Adonal Foyle for how much:rolleyes: McDyess, bad knees and all, for 4 million a year for 4 years??

Will be interesting to see what Rox can get done in next couple of weeks that makes fiscal sense. Gotta believe there are more Jim Jacksons to be had.

yeah, I think we'll have to wait for the deals, or do trades with our players or TE. This FA seller's market is madness ...

Heck, you gotta believe that now we might be able to move Taylor. He's starting to look like a decent contract... to other teams, anyway. I'll be surprised if the Wizards don't match the offer from the Bucks, but you never know. A lot of us thought we'd match West's offer for Posey.

    Man.

I'd rather play with 5 guards than have the Rockets pay the salaries that are going out to below-mediocre bigs.

Thank goodness we have that chinese fellow.

The thing is, we don't need much.

If we find a nice player, that's great.

But our basic need is someone who can play 20-25 solid minutes at PG and someone who can play around 15 MOTIVATED minutes at backup C. Hopefully, the latter is a good shotblocker.

Any of the FA PG's out there will do. Literally any. We'll take the last one standing, whoever it is. That should cost us half the exception. Then we can trade for someone's backup C, I'm sure Seattle would love to dump either James or Potapenko on us for the TE. They're both in their final year so they will play extra hard this year, and can block shots.

Anything we do beyond these types oftransactions is just icing on the cake.

Well, if the Bucks are gonna give Etan Thomas their whole MLE, that means they won't have any $ for Dan Gadzuric and he ought to be pretty cheap.

Wouldn't that also mean Damon Jones is as good as gone?

Glad we are not signing these guys. They are getting way overpayed. I bet FA come cheaper next year after all these signings come back and bite all of these teams in the butt.
