I expected it because James is coming off injury and entering 2nd arbitration year and has been passed on the depth chart by others ( Dubin, France, Paredes. etc) I thought they would NT Bielak too but as soon as they did not protect Murray I figured they would keep Brandon
James had flexor tendon surgery in October. He would miss a lot of the season and would be on the 60 day IL anyway. Why pay him?
Would Judge take 5 years 200 Million? Abreu after that. Let the pitching ride qnd Verlander go. Valdez/Javier/McCullers/Urquidy/Brown/Garcia is a 6 man rotation that allows for injury, rest, high potential and a trade near the deadline if desired. Altuve Pena Yordan Judge Bregman Tucker Abreu Maldy DH
I can't imagine him getting much of anything. Maybe not even a guaranteed roster spot. Obviously don't sign him for anything more than dirt cheap, but there would be nothing to lose. Thats exactly why I would be interested
I’m not so much surprised that he’s being non-tendered as much as surprised it didn’t happen prior to rule 5 protection deadline so that they could add Julks or Murray. Seems like the only reason to do it this way is if they thought they might get trade interest in James and/or fully expect to add at least 5 players from outside the org this offseason.
Who knows... Could be a trade that adds a couple 40 man guys. Maybe this lefty they signed makes the team, etc, etc. Dubon being tendered a contract should ruffle some feathers around here...
Jesus we desperately need to stop wasting our time with James. That damn 6th inning of game 4 vs Boston, kept asking myself why does Hinch have him in the game in such an important spot. Sure enough he crapped the bed.
Munetaka Murakami is a 22 year old First Baseman from Japan, A Left Handed Power and Average Hitter. He Broke the Home Run Record with 57 Home Runs in Japan
He's not worth a look. We can't fix him. We're not desperate enough to take that on. Somebody will though.
I think Bellinger and the Astros make a lot of sense. He can play CF and 1B, both positions of need. We know he can field. The question has been his hitting... I think a 1 year deal with a player option could make sense... I have a feeling after he mouthed off he wouldn't want to come to Houston even with Correa gone. There's also the possibility his hitting was benefited by the Dodgers system... maybe they pulled the plug when he started struggling?
plus he’d just eat a roster spot - I thought we were gunning for some big bats ! Not little tiny bats
I'm not sure that's the case... i ran the number without Montero and 23 million for Abreu, 8 for Gurriel, and 12 for Brantley. With Verlander at 33 million they would be 15 million under last year's tax... don't recall if that was 26 man or 40 man...
