I don't get why people are so adamant about doing nothing to fight climate change. Warming the planet up is not a good thing.
They are self absorbed. They don't care about the future of the climate. They would rather live as they want, regardless of the impact of this planet in the future. It's the same types who don't believe is helping those who need help the most.
I'm trying to run the comments in my mind. She didn't dress the occasion, but does she have to? Is dress decorum still a thing or is it antiquated? Even the argument that she obviously posing for the online likes rather than the issue is riddled with landmines. Again, what gives one the right to criticize the other... Maybe her social media presence allows her a bigger platform to reach her issues. Fuggetabouttit. She looks like a poser and her Twitter looks more like an IG influencer than a legit cause to carry. I'll let her generation sort out whether this is the new normal they want to live with... the continuation of idealism being a platform for self promotion and aggrandizement
Every Place On Earth Warming Faster Than Every Other Place On Earth https://www.wmbriggs.com/post/43453/ excerpt: The other day we saw a UN report which claimed that “billions live in regions that have already experienced warming greater than the global average.” They didn’t say where those regions were, a strange lacuna for such a large number of souls. I thought this an interesting question, so I looked it up, searching with terms like “warming faster than rest of the world” and the like. I used the Regime-approved search engine Google. Here are the regions of the world which Regime-approved government and media sources—I would never quote from conspiracy-believing denier sites!—think are warming faster than the rest of the world. I believe all of these links are from the last year or two. I did not cheat and use anything from the 2000s or earlier. The Arctic: The Arctic is warming four times faster than the global average Europe: “Europe hotting up more than twice global average“. The Mediterranean: “The Mediterranean region is warming 20% faster than the global average.“ The Middle East: “Middle East region heating up twice as fast as rest of globe.“ Africa: “Africa’s climate has warmed more than the global average since pre-industrial times“; “Africa warming faster than rest of world: IPCC Sixth Assessment Report“. Russia: “Russia warming ‘2.5 times quicker’ than global average: ministry“. China: “China warming up faster than rest of the world: Report“. West Asia: “Countries in the eastern Mediterranean and West Asia are warming twice as fast as the global average”. Singapore: “Why Singapore is heating up twice as fast as the rest of the world“. Japan: “Tokyo’s mean annual temperature has risen by 2.86C since 1900, about three times as fast as the world average of 0.96C“. India: “Global warming to hit India the worst in Asia by 2070.“ Pakistan: “Temperature increase in the region is at 0.42°C per decade, warming twice as fast as the rest of the world“. Indian Ocean: “Indian Ocean warming at higher rate than other oceans, says IPCC report.“ Australia: “Australia is Warming Faster than Global Average“. New Zealand: “In the past two decades, it increased 0.0387 C per year, slightly higher than the world average.” South-West Pacific: “South-West Pacific region, ocean heat content has increased more than three times faster than the global average rate.“ Antarctica: “South pole warmed ‘three times faster’ than global average over past 30 years.“ Earth’s Lakes: “Earth’s lakes are warming faster than its air“. Canada: Canada is warming twice as fast as the rest of the world. Latin America and the Caribbean: “Latin America and the Caribbean warming faster than global average“. Mexico: “Mexico is warming faster than the rest of the planet, they say“. Central and South America: “IPCC: Mean temperatures have very likely increased in all sub-regions and will continue to increase at rates greater than the global average (high confidence).“ The Atlantic Ocean: “The Atlantic Ocean is warming the fastest“. Ladies & Gentlemen, I bring you the seat of the Regime, The Once United States of America: “Over the past 50 years, the U.S. has warmed 68 percent faster than the planet as a whole.“ Every State Also Heating Up Faster Than Every State New England: “New England is warming faster than the rest of the planet, new study finds.“ Northeast: “Northeast region of the U.S. is warming faster than the rest of the country.“ California: “California Warming More than U.S. Average as CO2 Climbs“. Great Lakes Basin: “Great Lakes Basin warming faster than other parts of country, new study finds“. Southwest and upper Midwest: “THE SOUTHWEST (ARIZONA, NEW MEXICO, AND TEXAS), IS THE FASTEST- WARMING REGION IN THE NATION: Michigan, Wisconsin and northern-tier states round out the Top 10“. Utah: “Climate Analysis Finds Utah Temperatures Rose Fifth Fastest In The Country“. Have I left anywhere out? . . . . more at the link
I don't believe in any of these apocalyptic forecasts. From the beginning of mankind, people profited from coming up with apocalyptic scenarios. It gave them power over others.
Interesting line to draw: distressing? Nah, can't be right. Peoplez been wrong before. looks like comfortable sailing? That scienz is solidz breh! People nevez ben wrong about thingz bein OK.
There is a literal trillion dollar industry that has perfected an economy of scale of a product they don't want to adjust because they cornered and dominated the market and don't want that market to disappear (oil and gas). They have much more incentive to fool idiots like you than some ****ing career academics scientist who does mathematical models.
Most folks trend toward easy and the least amount of effort unless it directly benefits themselves above all others. Frankly, there are times where I feel we're screwed by our own collective momentum and by the insignificance of our individual actions.
Don't think that I have not read up on things. Several of the more apocalyptic forecasts made in the past have already been proven completely wrong.
I don't think you have read up on things. Unless you crammed a course of partial differential equations and learned dynamic system modeling, no you did not read enough.
Some of those are warming faster than glaobal average since industrialization. Some are saying they warming faster than other specific regions which may or may not be faster than global average. But also this depends on when they are taking global average temps given that temperature readings are not simultaneous from all parts of the world. SO yes every part of the World very well be warming than global average if they are comparing it to the average from 2021.
It's not just that. There are a lot of invested interest in continuing with current technology and current consumption patterns. This idea that people are looking at Climate Change as some sort of profit driven or control driven conspiracy ignores how much vested economic and political interests are in continuing using fossil fuels.
Yup. Like I said there is a literal trillion dollar industry that maximizes return on investment purely based on maintaining the status quo(oil and gas). The last thing a capitalist wants is to let go of a market they cornered and dominated.
You don't need that much knowledge. Climate models always have a range and we are seeing models from even 50 years ago being accurate. https://www.nationalacademies.org/based-on-science/climate-models-reliably-project-future-conditions "One way to test how well models perform is to look at older models and see if their predictions came true. A study of 17 climate models going back to the early 1970s found that most of the models did a good job of predicting temperatures in the decades ahead." I also do believe that people like Al Gore did a disservice by focussing on disasters without giving a better understanding of the ranges. Still we have seen an increase in the type of disasters that were predicted. There have been more wildfires and droughts in areas predicted to get drier and more flooding in areas predicted to get wetter. As Houstonians well know tropical storms are getting wetter and the hurricane season is longer.
I think the most prevalent way is through hindcasting. Climate modeling is just doing a cplex dynamic systems problem. Over trial and error the scientists determine the relevant variables and conditions but forming a model which is their hypothesis and using hindcasting as a way to test the model. Hindcasting is basically using a test model in a previous era and seeing if the output of them model reflects the old data.
