I agree. As a back up Collier has some wieght and can play either the Center or Power Forward position plus with his size and outside shooting he can be an offensive threat running the pick and role. Best of all is that he would probably be had for close to the minimum if not the minimum. I think from the ones on the list I would most want Mihm and then Steven Hunter.
i didnt' add him to the list because his stats are'nt as good as they look at first sight. he isnt much of a shot blocker, and he frequently gets into foul trouble even in limited minutes. that combo showes me that he is a very poor defender. on offense he would be a great fit, but JVG wants D first.
I'd like to pick up Clark. He has the right type of body for what we need, but I don't see him as a longterm solution. Otherwise, teams would already be throwing tons of money at him.
Shht....didn't realize Mike James is a FA...is he restricted or unrestricted?? He would be PERFECT for our needs - can get his own shot when a play breaks down, good finisher on the break, heady/low mistake player, decent defender, and will come cheap. He clearly outplayed Lindsey Hunter at the backup PG in the Finals even though he was only given limited playing time. I have no idea why Boston ever agreed to include them in the trade to Detroit in the first place.
id pick up derek fisher, and keon clark. Damon jones is a good back up poing guard in my opinion, but he wont make the big shots needed to win the game that fisher probably would, touch wood.
with shaq out of the west, dont really need someone like cato to fill in the backup center position. maybe the rockets are planning on using howard as the center and play mo taylor at the 4 spot while yao rests during games
If we get Steven Hunter, wouldn't the Rockets essentially be Orlando from last year with Yao? I wonder how effective the worst team (plus Yao) in the East last year will fare in the more competitive West? Anyway, I hope CD will go after someone like C. Mihm. I think he's a serviceable center, and I doubt the Celtics will match. They have LaFrentz and now Blount tied to pretty hefty contracts. My guess is CD is waiting to let the feeding frenzy settle, and maybe cooler heads will prevail. If NJ loses K.Mart, then we can always ship one of our PF to them. Same goes for Cleveland. All in all, hopefully, we will move one of our PFs in exchange for a serviceable PG and an athletic PF/Center.
Mike James is very underrated. I'd much rather have him than Damon Jones. I'm having a hard time with deciding on Fisher. I think last year's stats were an anomoly, but I still worry about his health. Definately the high risk/high reward pick of the four. Charley Ward would only be a band-aid. It would mean that we're folding on the point guard market this year, and taking our chances with a platoon at the point. It might be the safe bet, but with low risk often comes low reward.
Any kind of Mo Taylor + something for Van Exel swap realistic? Houston trades: PF Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.8 minutes) SF Clarence Weatherspoon (5.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.6 apg in 16.7 minutes) Houston receives: PG Nick Van Exel (12.6 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 5.3 apg in 32.2 minutes) PF Popeye Jones (0.0 ppg, 0.2 rpg, 0.0 apg in 2.0 minutes) Change in team outlook: -3.9 ppg, -6.1 rpg, and +3.3 apg. Golden State trades: PG Nick Van Exel (12.6 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 5.3 apg in 32.2 minutes) PF Popeye Jones (0.0 ppg, 0.2 rpg, 0.0 apg in 2.0 minutes) Golden State receives: PF Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 75 games) SF Clarence Weatherspoon (5.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.6 apg in 52 games) Change in team outlook: +3.9 ppg, +6.1 rpg, and -3.3 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Houston and Golden State being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Golden State had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Okay, that is a bit too much of wishful thinking, I guess .
i just thought of something today...if kmart actually signs with the nuggs then anderson would become a very realistic option. by the time kmart makes his choice, and then waits the 15 days to see if NJ will match, a lot of FA's will already have found homes for next year. anderson will wait to see if the nuggs will resign him, probably passing up some offers. he could turn into one of those "bargains" JVG and CD were talking about.
For those few people interested in the great race for the undeniable skills of Jason Collier... He's off the market, signed with the Hawks for 2 years 3.2 Mil. Thats a good deal, I wouldnt have minded as a backup...esp in todays free agent frenzy... I still can't believe Foyle got all that money...
Just bring in someone who has a skill, shot blocker or jump shooter at Center. And as far as the point, I'm willing to live with Gaines and Lue right now. But nobody else is.
Collier just got a 2 year contract from the Hawks. As to steven hunter, if he has so much potential why dont the magic keep him. There was an article where teams should test steven hunter for ADD because he cant grasp complex defensive schemes, thus making him useless with JVG. All he does block shots, but he misses his assignment alot.
I'd add Bob Sura to the list of point guards. He is injury prone but he played great for Atlanta last year.
