Even with JV... the chances of this team replicating what happened last year is already slim to none.

Somebody will get injured. Somebody will have a down year as the league makes adjustments. Somebody will exceed expectations.

Consistent/proven starting pitching is still the most important/valuable commodity in all of baseball.

I would only like Choi if he came with no cost and allowed the Astros to bring in another elite bat at C or DH, along with resigning Verlander. Choi is a decent hitter but belongs in the 7 hole on a team as good as Houston wants to be.

Definitely agree, and it's not just having pitching, it's having playoff tested pitching (which Urquidy gives you).

I would hope everyone who is a fan of baseball is a fan of Ji-Man Choi .... whether he is a good fit for the Astros right now is another thing

I'm sure Ji-Man Choi is a great dude, but man, his stats look underwhelming. What am I missing here? Looks like he's on the downside of a mediocre career.

Even if we sign JV to a 2 year $40M deal we should have plenty of space for 2023 and 2024. We can bring in Abreu and Brantley on two year deals and still have space.

Assuming Bregman is a 25-30 homer guy instead of 40, and Altuve is a .280-300 hitter with 20-25 homers, I'm wondering what their contracts will look like in 2025. Bregman will play 2025 at age 31 and Altuve at 35.

safest bet to not show up in the Playoffs? Remember, he had a 5.85 ERA this postseason in 4 starts. That's not good.

Verlander declined his option. I would let him walk. His shaky WS performances should be of concern. I appreciate all he has done with the team, but I don't think the Astros should sell the farm to sign him. Let's move on.

Agreed. If we’re able to resign JV, we should trade either Urquidy or Garcia for a bat. Not all is lost on offense if we resign JV. Add another big bat in FA, we should be in great shape.

My first choice right now would be to resign JV, trade one of our SP for a bat, and get another bat thru FA.
