A24 has premiered the first trailer for filmmaker Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale,” starring Brendan Fraser and Sadie Sink, which is getting a December 9th U.S. theatrical release by distributor A24.

The project, an adaptation of Samuel D. Hunter’s 2012 play, sees Fraser slap on a whole bunch of prosthetics to play a 600-pound (272 kg) middle-age recluse who tries to reconnect with his estranged 17-year-old daughter (Sadie Sink).

The film had an immensely successful world premiere at the 2022 Venice Film Festival and Fraser’s performance has been heralded. Hong Chau, Samantha Morton, Ty Simpkins and Sathya Sridharan co-star.

If Fraser gets the Oscar we might finally get that sequel to George of the Jungle!

He looked pretty fat in Doom Patrol. Earned all that weight.

    Never go full fat b*stard?

I'll still watch out of loyalty to the director.

Apparently Brendon Frazier's back is all ****ed up from doing stunts on the Mummy movies and he can't exercise anymore. I think he had to have half a dozen surgeries, and I want to say he takes corticosteroids, too and is in a lot of pain all the time.

He's put on a ton of weight, but it's not a reflection on him.

600 lbs is more than just being fat. For most people that would take an effort to get to that.

While this is not necessarily the type of movie I typically gravitate towards, Fraser is by all accounts a really good dude who was horribly shat on by Hollywood executives. I'm glad he is getting some kind of resurgence and I will totally go see this just to support him. Aronofsky has a pretty good track record too.

I've known a few over-achievers like this in my life. Gastric bypass changed their lives.

...not interested in the T&A from a movie with a fat gay man as the lead character.

Why not include Misery itself? Then the **** sandwich would be complete.

Not seeing the Whale, and I wish it would quit advertising so much. But I wish I could have heard the studio pitch meeting for it. "You see, I've got something you've never seen before! Well, you've seen it every day in America, but never on the big screen! And I mean... big screen, heh, heh." (And actually, we did see it in the Gilbert Grape movie, which was not half bad b/c it didn't focus on the whale.)
