this is pretty much why i haven’t watched this. when i think star wars, i think super monks with candy colored lazer swords doing fancy spins. nonpowered characters seem to be a lesser character
I thought it was much better than Kenobi. It starts slow but builds into a great finale. Doesn't have the emotional payoff of the Mandalorian but is far better acted overall.
Nope. 12 is the amount of episodes for season one. Since Andor has a very defined ending due to Rogue One the writers have a very tight two season script. This show has always meant to have 24 episodes and nothing more. It's one of the reasons why the writing can be so tight. Many TV series want to eventually turn into those 5+ season series that last forever but eventually those shows meander and lose their strength in writing quality because there is no direction and purposes besides just existing at that point (looking at you Supernatural). Fortunately we won't have that issue with Andor. It's strictly going to be two seasons and that's it. They already have the compete script for the entire series.
Yup the level of detail in world building is shockingly very "unStars Wars" like. It matches top tier sci-fi like the Expanse in that sense and that makes people just care for the stakes and motivations of the characters that much more. It doesn't hurt that pretty much every actor is killing their roles God damn Andy Serkis is so underutilized in Hollywood.
Funny, when he showed up in this I said to myself "of course Andy Serkis is in this, Andy Serkis is in everything now." eta: just learned that he's directing an animated movie version of Animal Farm, which could be awesome.
This also plays into why its so good. Its not why itself, in that they could have done a Star Wars with those storylines that was also extremely good... but, imo, because those storylines are gone, it has only further pushed the need for this to just be a damn good sci fi show on its own. Now, if/when they introduce a Jedi or Sith, theoretically it should still be incredibly well done, instead of just pow pow lightsabers.
You can know almost nothing of Star Wars and enjoy this show. Change some names and you could pass this off as its own sci-fi show like you said. Probably my favorite SW series other htan The Mandalorian.
After Boba Fett and Obi-Wan, this show has no business being this good. Just some more evidence that keeping to the peripheral of the original story line seems to be the recipe for success (Rogue One, Mandalorian). And by success, I mean in terms of quality. Hopefully word of mouth gets around and the show gets some sustained viewership.
