Paolo DRating = 114 Jabari DRating = 118 Sengun DRating = 114 Its a MYTH that Paolo is a bad defender. Expecting him to be all nba defense AND an offensive hub is just unrealistic. These guys might not be Evan Mobley on defense, but then again they are all tasked with way more offensive responsibility too. "Paolo wasnt even the 2nd best player on the court yesterday" Sheeesh!
I think Jabari will be fine. He’s very young and still has room to be better. He’s figuring things out right now, maybe even hit a rookie wall. I do think our guards can be alittle selfish sometimes. So we’ll see how this all pans out.
Not gonna lie, I wanted Chet or Jabari because I thought the fit with Green and Alp was better. After watching Paolo play in the pros, I don’t see a fit issue. He’s a jumbo 3 imo, plays unselfish and can get his with his handle and footwork from face up at will. I think him and Alp would be a fun duo to watch. Doesn’t matter though, Jabari is here. It’s been a rough start for him but I have faith in his abilities. The 3&D will show up when he’s not pressing, then he needs to develop a simple dribble drive and pull up game.
Rashard was a really good player, he had multiple 20pt seasons and avg 38% from 3s for his career. I’d be happy if Smith turned into this but I’m not seeing it. Rashard was a slasher in additional to being a 3pt sniper, and he had enough handles to drive off screens and had a very quick release. Jabari looks more like a set shooter as his release isn’t as quick. It doesn’t look like he can shoot off the dribble yet but I think that will come. He just isn’t moving around enough to get those types of shots. Even when he calls for the ball he’s usually standing still behind the 3pt line where he’s guarded and ends up passing since he isn’t able to drive or shoot over who’s guarding him. And he isn’t really a playmaker so unless the intent is for him to shoot then playing through him doesn’t really open up the game for others. For now I’d like to see him in a similar role to Horry. Get it down low to Sengun and get set for 3s, set pick and rolls with Green, open up the lane for Porter and get it back for dunks. He needs to play off others to get his shot. As it is right now by passing him the ball at the 3pt line while he’s guarded and expecting him to make a play isn’t who he is.
I just didn’t get why clutch and others were so oppose to Banchero. He’s everything you would want from a top pick, I didn’t see a real weakness or a skill he needed to work on. He might need to figure out team chemistry but skills usually makes up for that. And when you have the worst team in the league you go for best player. The type of plays and moved you get from Banchero and Green would drive ratings through the roof. If you watch enough film of Jabari, outside of shooting 3s he has one clip where he goes in for a dunk. One of his teammates recaps the play, says it was spectacular because Jabari hasn’t done that before even in practice so it surprised everyone. Watch Banchero, he does that play nearly every game and you realize how different the two are.
I personally thought Banchero athleticism wouldn’t play against NBA players. His skillset is so advanced at that size that he’s overwhelming. Short area burst is better than I thought, specifically with the ball. Footwork, handle, vision, size is elite. I still don’t see where he can improve a ton outside of shooting percentages (but to be fair, if he shoots above average he’s a superstar)
That is probably his lowest floor offensively. Troy Murphy comes to my mind, he was a tall player that could shoot the 3 ball well. Nothing spectacular, I think Jabari could be a better version of that, and he has to improve his dribbling game.
Simple, we would all be happy bc we got the best player in draft. The way he handled Garuba on that one play was amazing, I think a tear fell down my cheek
He'd probably be dogshit, Silas would either underplay him or underuse him or just completely mishandle how he should be played.
