I don't really care whether Click returns as much as making a decision quickly. We can't afford to waste this off season. CRANE. YOU are the GM until you hire one so get to work.
I hope Crane is as good as many of you guys think he is, because he is really sticking his nose in now. If I'm a perspective GM and I have to run my choices by Dusty Baker first, I might wanna look elsewhere. The power dynamic in our front office concerns the hell out of me moving forward.
if this stuff is true, why would Crane *want* to bring Click back? I mean, you have a championship team and you had to override your GM multiple times to get there. You could basically have your pick of GMs and they'd jump at the opportunity given how well the team is setup for the next several years. Outside of PR reasons, why would you want a GM you have to keep overriding?
Their are both pros and cons to an involved owner. Many here think only negative things happen with an involved owner.
I know you’re joking but it would definitely fix our DH issue and give us another top end SP if we don’t resign JV.
Great question. Maybe “wants” him back is wrong. Accepts him and the situation because ultimately it’s been successful? Like Nook said I think duration of his contract will be interesting.
He’d be worth pretty much whatever they wanted. But they’d never trade him to Houston. Now if Houston offered to take back Rendon’s underwater contract it could be interesting. Astros get: SP/DH Shohei Ohtani 3B Anthony Rendon Angels get: SP Hunter Brown IF/OF Pedro Leon C Korey Lee Rendon takes over 1B and hits 7th. Ohtani is DH (and JV’s replacement) and hits 6th.
No chance in hell that, even if he were magically on the block, they would trade him to the Astros. That would lock up the division for another 10 years...and force people to like us.
Except he's a FA after next year and will command an insane contract, and the Astros don't exactly have a history of paying top dollar to FA's.
Weirdly negative tone considering we just won the WS. I have my generalized concerns too, but my hyper-anxiety is typically reserved more for game action Also bizarre when you consider that the Astros have been run nothing short of brilliantly since Crane took over. Just a weird overall take.
Because Click is pretty good at building a bullpen which is the reason we lost the other 2 WS we were in. Click is useful.
It'd be concerning that an owner hops the GM in decision-making..... if it was any other team. So far, Crane seems to be the best owner this town has ever had, and he ended up being right about Gurriel and not trading Urquidy. Although, credit to Click on getting Vazquez and the bullpen pieces. I wouldn't mind Click coming back.
Angels GM told reporters today they aren't trading Ohtani this offseason. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022...l-not-trade-shohei-ohtani-this-offseason.html
Mancini was terrible in September. I've read on this board that Click calls the shots on the playoff lineups in the playoffs so clearly something doesn't add up.
